Royal Caribbean is canceling some Royal Beach Club Paradise Island passes because a charter group booked the entire club. Carnival’s brand-new Rewards program is already running into capacity issues with some Platinum benefits. TSA is testing a way for certain non-ticketed visitors to go through security. And Philadelphia is getting attention as a welcoming destination for LGBTQ travelers.

So grab your boarding pass and your favorite drink from the bar.

Royal Caribbean Cancels Beach Club Passes for a Private Charter

Imagine this.

You’re sailing to Nassau. You’ve visited before, so this time you decide to try something different.

You book a Royal Beach Club Paradise Island day pass.

You pay for it.

You already have the beach outfit planned.

You’re mentally holding a Coco Loco.

Then Royal Caribbean sends you a message that basically says:

“About that reservation…”

Guests scheduled to visit Nassau on January 23, 2027 are being told that their Royal Beach Club passes are being canceled because a charter sailing has reserved the entire beach club for the day.

There is no additional capacity.

The Good News: You Get a Refund

Royal Caribbean says affected guests will receive a full refund to their original payment method.

That helps.

But if the beach club was the main reason you were excited about Nassau?

Your plans just changed.

Three Royal Caribbean ships are scheduled to be in Nassau that day:

• Allure of the Seas
• Brilliance of the Seas
• Utopia of the Seas

According to the episode, Allure of the Seas is carrying the charter group that booked the full beach club.

I understand both sides.

The charter group paid for exclusivity.

The other cruisers also paid and thought their plans were confirmed.

And somewhere somebody is staring at a matching beach hat, asking:

“So I packed this for nothing?”

If you’re affected, do not wait too long to make a Plan B.

Popular Nassau excursions can fill quickly.

Carnival Platinum Cruisers Are Already Losing Some Priority Perks

Carnival Rewards officially launched on September 1.

And just a few days later…

Some Platinum cruisers are already getting emails saying:

“We need to talk.”

Guests sailing aboard Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Vista on September 5 were notified that several Platinum benefits would not be available as usual.

Why?

Carnival says there are simply too many Platinum guests onboard those sailings.

Which Benefits Are Affected?

According to the episode, impacted perks include:

• Priority embarkation
• Priority debarkation
• Priority access at cruise ports
• Early stateroom access for luggage drop-off
• Priority luggage delivery
• Priority Guest Services access in some situations

Carnival introduced its new Rewards system partly because so many cruisers had reached upper loyalty tiers that delivering all the associated benefits had become increasingly difficult.

And now here we are.

September 1.

September 5.

That honeymoon ended quickly.

Status and Operational Benefits Are Not the Same Thing

Guests who transitioned from the old VIFP program and opted into Carnival Rewards can keep their loyalty status through December 2028.

But having the status does not necessarily guarantee that every operational perk can be delivered on every sailing.

That is an important distinction.

A benefit may be listed.

Capacity can still affect how it is delivered.

And Funnel Heads, we already know:

Nothing gets a Platinum cruiser worked up faster than the phrase:

“Priority unavailable.”

That is basically maritime fighting language.

Kidding.

Mostly.

TSA Is Letting Some Non-Flyers Go Through Security

Now let’s leave the cruise terminal and head to the airport.

TSA has rolled out a program called Gateside by TSA PreCheck.

It allows certain eligible people to request access through airport security even when they are not flying anywhere.

Yes.

We have come full circle.

Why Would Someone Want Airport Access Without a Ticket?

There are plenty of reasons.

You might want to:

• Walk a family member to the gate
• Meet someone during a long layover
• Greet an arriving traveler
• Accompany an unaccompanied minor
• Spend extra time with a loved one before departure
• Access restaurants or amenities beyond security

The program is currently available at a limited number of airports.

The transcript references airports including:

• Dallas/Fort Worth
• Los Angeles
• Las Vegas
• San Diego
• Salt Lake City
• Detroit
• Indianapolis
• Columbus

and several others.

Who Can Apply?

According to the episode, you generally need to be:

• An active TSA PreCheck member

Philadelphia Is Putting Out the Welcome Mat for LGBTQ Travelers

Philadelphia is also getting attention as a destination where LGBTQ travelers may find history, community, nightlife, food, and welcoming spaces.

The city’s roughly 25-block Gayborhood near Center City includes:

• LGBTQ-owned restaurants
• Bars
• Shops
• Nightlife
• Community spaces

The area is also home to the recently opened Philly Pride Visitor Center.

Philadelphia Has Deep LGBTQ History

Philadelphia has longstanding ties to LGBTQ civil-rights history.

The episode notes that the city was connected to early organizing efforts that helped contribute to the first national march on Washington for LGBTQ rights in 1979.

Philadelphia is also home to Giovanni’s Room, which opened in 1973 and is widely recognized as the country’s longest-running LGBTQ bookstore.

But the bigger point here goes beyond one destination.

• Premium seating
• Transfers
• Other paid experiences

Take a screenshot.

Save the confirmation email.

Keep the refund and cancellation terms.

If the reservation gets canceled, check the refund immediately.

Then start looking for alternatives before everybody else does.

Because a refund is great.

But a refund does not magically create another beach chair.
