Cruise Family, today’s Boarding Call has ships, resorts, old-school muster drills, a devastating Alaska dock fire, and a post-cruise surprise that might have me abandoning my car at the port permanently.

Royal Caribbean Group is making a major move into the all-inclusive resort business through a partnership with Sandals and Beaches Resorts. Carnival is bringing back the traditional full in-person muster drill on five ships this weekend. A new $80 million cruise dock in Whittier, Alaska, has been declared a total loss after a major fire. And some Royal Caribbean cruisers returned from vacation in Galveston to discover that their cars had apparently become luxury condos for baby spiders.

Apparently Wednesday decided peace was optional.

🏝️ Royal Caribbean Makes a $3 Billion Move Into Sandals and Beaches

Royal Caribbean Group apparently looked at cruises, private islands, beach clubs, river cruises, and luxury ships and said:

“What else can we add to the vacation?”

The answer?

All-inclusive resorts.

According to the episode, Royal Caribbean Group and Sandals Resorts announced a new partnership in which Royal Caribbean will acquire a 50% stake in Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts for approximately $3 billion.

The deal values the overall Sandals and Beaches business at roughly $6 billion.

Sandals brings decades of experience operating adults-only all-inclusive Caribbean resorts.

Beaches brings its family-focused resort portfolio.

Royal Caribbean brings a very large cruise customer base.

Together, the companies plan to form a joint venture combining Royal Caribbean’s vacation platform with Sandals’ resort expertise. The transaction is expected to close in early 2027, assuming the necessary approvals are received.

And immediately, my travel-advisor brain starts asking questions.

Could we eventually see:

  • Cruise-and-stay vacation packages?
  • Royal Caribbean loyalty benefits at Sandals?
  • Pre-cruise Sandals stays?
  • Post-cruise Beaches vacations?
  • Combined promotions?
  • Resort-and-cruise loyalty opportunities?

None of those ideas were announced in the transcript, but they’re exactly the kind of possibilities this partnership naturally makes travelers wonder about.

Because Royal Caribbean apparently no longer wants just your sea days.

They want the beach chair too. 😂

🛟 Carnival Is Bringing Back the Old-School Muster Drill — On Five Ships

Longtime cruisers…

You remember.

Everybody went to their assigned muster station.

Everybody arrived at the same time.

You stood.

You waited.

Then you waited some more.

And eventually somebody would stroll in 15 minutes late holding a frozen drink like:

“Was I supposed to be somewhere?” 😂

Well, for passengers aboard five Carnival ships, that traditional in-person safety drill is coming back temporarily.

The affected sailings mentioned in the episode are:

  • Carnival Horizon — September 26
  • Carnival Panorama — September 26
  • Carnival Sunshine — September 27
  • Carnival Vista — September 27
  • Carnival Firenze — September 28

More than 18,000 guests are expected to participate.

But before Linda and Leroy start yelling:

“Carnival got rid of e-muster!”

No.

It did not.

These are periodic full safety drills that ships and crews must perform so emergency procedures can be demonstrated with actual passenger participation.

Carnival explained that ships periodically have to complete these drills to satisfy government requirements and international SOLAS — Safety of Life at Sea — standards.

During the drill, crew members will demonstrate life jackets, explain evacuation procedures, and sound the emergency signal:

Seven short blasts followed by one long blast.

Food and beverage service will also temporarily stop.

Cruise Cousins…

They turned off the bar.

That is how you know they are serious. 😂

The interruption is brief, but the information matters.

If an emergency ever does happen, those few minutes of paying attention could make a real difference.

🔥 Whittier’s New $80 Million Cruise Dock Declared a Total Loss

Now to a serious update from Alaska.

A major fire at the Whittier Alaska cruise terminal caused extensive damage to a dock that only began welcoming ships in late 2024.

The fire reportedly broke out near a tour vessel docked at the facility and burned for hours.

The blaze damaged both the dock and the tour boat Klondike Express.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Norwegian Jade was nearby when the fire occurred.

The ship moved safely away from the area and was not damaged.

Passengers scheduled to embark that day were redirected to Whittier’s other cruise terminal.

The damaged facility was part of an approximately $80 million development.

After assessing the damage, the Alaska State Fire Marshal’s Office determined that the dock itself was a total loss.

The cause remained under investigation at the time of the episode.

This matters because Whittier is an important embarkation and disembarkation point for Alaska cruises, particularly for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings brands.

The good news is that Whittier has another cruise facility available.

At the time of the episode, cruise lines had not announced widespread cancellations for 2027, but repairs, rebuilding, and future operating plans still needed to be determined.

🕷️ Cruise Over. Vacation Over. Car Taken Over by Baby Spiders.

Cruise Cousins…

Imagine this.

You had a great cruise.

You ate.

You drank.

You relaxed.

You got off the ship in Galveston.

You found your luggage.

You walked back to your car.

And your car said:

“Welcome home. We have new tenants.”

Baby spiders.

And apparently…

A LOT of them.

According to the episode, two Royal Caribbean cruisers returned to a parking area near Cruise Terminal 10 at the Port of Galveston and discovered their vehicle covered in tiny spiders.

An Uber driver who helped the couple reportedly said several other cars had the same eight-legged surprise.

The couple reportedly took an Uber to Walmart, purchased pesticide, and returned before they felt comfortable driving the vehicle home.

Listen.

I can handle:

  • delayed flights
  • missing luggage
  • rain
  • bad excursions
  • somebody reclining their airplane seat directly into my soul

But if I open my car door and 300 spiders look back at me?

They own the car.

Call the insurance company.

Tell them:

“Total loss.” 😂

To be clear, the spiders were not aboard the Royal Caribbean ship and were not inside Royal Caribbean’s terminal.

This happened in a parking area.

The episode explains that September can be a prime period for baby spiders in Texas. Spiderlings can sometimes move through a process called ballooning, releasing silk strands that catch the wind and carry them through the air.

That sounds adorable.

Until the wind drops them on your Honda.

🚗 Travel Tip of the Day: Check Your Car Before Driving Away

Today’s spider story gives us one of the strangest Travel Tips of the Day we’ve ever had.

If you leave your vehicle at a cruise port for a week or longer:

Give it a quick inspection before jumping inside.

Check:

  • mirrors
  • door handles
  • windshield
  • wheel wells
  • tires
  • under the hood if something looks unusual

And this isn’t just about spiders.

While you’re away, you could potentially encounter:

  • ants
  • rodents
  • storm debris
  • water damage
  • flooding
  • insects
  • other unexpected surprises

If you see something that could bite, sting, or damage the vehicle, don’t start grabbing at it.

Ask parking staff for assistance or contact a pest-control professional if needed.

Apparently our old post-cruise checklist was:

✅ Passport
✅ Luggage
✅ Car keys

Now we have to add:

✅ Make sure the car does not have eight legs.

Cruise Family, today’s Boarding Call has a record-breaking milestone in Miami, two serious stories that remind us why flexibility and compassion matter when we travel, and one Carnival event that had cruisers attacking the registration page like concert tickets had just gone on sale.

PortMiami has officially surpassed 10 million cruise passenger movements in a single fiscal year. A missing-person search aboard Carnival Panorama ended with heartbreaking confirmation that a guest had gone overboard. Oasis of the Seas diverted for two medical emergencies, delaying one sailing and changing the next. And Carnival Cruise Line opened registration for its first-ever President’s Cruise.

🚢 PortMiami Says: “10 Million? Hold My Mojito!”

The so-called Cruise Capital of the World has another record to celebrate.

PortMiami officially recorded its 10 millionth cruise passenger movement of the 2026 fiscal year on September 14.

And before you ask…

What exactly is a “passenger movement”?

It refers to passengers either boarding or disembarking from a cruise ship.

Although, as GFree pointed out in the episode, maybe the cruise industry could have workshopped that phrase just a little longer. 😂

PortMiami reached the 10-million mark with more than two weeks remaining in its fiscal year, which runs through September 30. The previous fiscal year’s record was about 8.56 million passengers, meaning the port had already surpassed that level by nearly 17 percent when it reached the milestone.

Port officials attributed the growth to factors including:

  • more cruise ships
  • additional cruise-line offerings
  • new and expanded terminals
  • continued investment in port infrastructure

The day PortMiami crossed that milestone, ships in port included Virgin Voyages’ Resilient Lady, Norwegian Getaway, Carnival Sunshine, Carnival Conquest, MSC Seaside, and Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas.

At this rate, Miami doesn’t need another traffic lane.

It needs an air-traffic controller for rolling luggage.

And somewhere out there, somebody is still sitting in an Uber saying:

“We can SEE the ship. Why haven’t we moved?” 😂

💔 Carnival Panorama Search Ends in Tragedy

Now we turn to a much more difficult story.

A missing-person search aboard Carnival Panorama ended with confirmation that a male guest had gone overboard.

The incident occurred during the final full day of a seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise from Long Beach, California. The ship had departed Puerto Vallarta and was heading back toward California when announcements began asking for help locating a missing guest.

Later that afternoon, Carnival Panorama reversed course.

Guests were asked to return to their staterooms while crew members conducted a full ship-wide search and accounted for everyone aboard.

Carnival’s security team also reviewed onboard camera footage.

According to the episode, that footage ultimately confirmed that the guest had gone overboard.

U.S. and Mexican authorities were notified, and search-and-rescue responsibility was transferred to those agencies. No additional information about the guest or the circumstances surrounding the incident had been publicly released at the time covered in the episode.

Carnival said its care team was supporting the guest’s family and traveling companions.

There isn’t a joke for this one.

A family went on vacation together expecting memories, laughter, and time at sea.

Now they are dealing with something unimaginable.

Our thoughts remain with the guest’s loved ones, traveling companions, crew members, and everyone aboard affected by what happened.

🚑 Two Medical Emergencies Change Oasis of the Seas’ Schedule

Another serious situation unfolded aboard Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas.

The ship was sailing a seven-night Bahamas itinerary when medical staff determined that one guest needed urgent care ashore.

According to the captain’s announcement referenced in the episode, one of the patients was a critically ill seven-year-old child.

Oasis of the Seas reversed course and returned to Nassau, the nearest location where hospital care could be provided.

Then, while the ship was heading back, a second guest became critically ill.

Both guests were eventually taken ashore in Nassau for further medical treatment. Royal Caribbean did not disclose additional medical details, respecting the families’ privacy.

The emergency diversion had a domino effect on the ship’s schedule.

Instead of arriving at Cape Liberty in New Jersey around 6 a.m. on September 20, Oasis of the Seas arrived approximately eight hours late.

That delay pushed embarkation for the next sailing into the evening.

The next cruise also lost its scheduled Port Canaveral call on September 22.

Royal Caribbean refunded affected shore excursions and provided onboard credits to guests on the following sailing.

Nobody likes:

  • losing a port
  • boarding hours late
  • rearranging flights
  • changing transportation plans

But this is one of those situations where the answer has to be:

Take care of the people first.

If it were our child, parent, spouse, friend—or us—we would want that captain to turn the ship around too.

🎉 Carnival’s First President’s Cruise Sends Fans Racing Online

After two serious stories, we can use something lighter.

Apparently Carnival cruisers woke up and collectively said:

“MOVE! Get out the way—I need to REGISTER!” 😂

Carnival Cruise Line opened registration for its first-ever President’s Cruise at 10 a.m. Eastern.

The event is planned aboard Carnival Magic on the February 28, 2027 sailing.

The voyage is already tied to John Heald’s FFS No. 9 cruise, and the President’s Cruise activities are expected to feature Carnival President Christine Duffy, John Heald, and Carnival Chief Culinary Officer Emeril Lagasse.

Registration costs $40 per person, and guests must already be booked on the qualifying Carnival Magic sailing.

The fee includes access to things such as:

  • special parties
  • exclusive events
  • a commemorative lanyard
  • a gift
  • meet-and-greet opportunities

And apparently Carnival fans do not play around when there are parties, swag, John Heald, Christine Duffy, and Emeril involved.

So many guests reportedly tried to register when enrollment opened that some initially encountered delays and website issues.

Carnival cruisers treated that registration page like Beyoncé tickets. 😂

✈️ Travel Tip of the Day: Don’t Book That Flight Too Early

The Oasis of the Seas delay gives us an important reminder.

Your scheduled arrival time is not the same thing as your airport departure time.

Even on the final morning of a cruise, unexpected situations can occur:

  • medical emergencies
  • weather
  • mechanical issues
  • port congestion
  • customs delays
  • unexpected diversions

Whenever possible, leave a healthy buffer between the ship’s scheduled arrival and your flight home.

If the itinerary says:

“Ship arrives at 6:00 a.m.”

that does not necessarily mean:

“You’ll be at the airport gate by 7:45.”

The ship still has to:

  1. reach the pier
  2. dock
  3. clear the appropriate authorities
  4. begin luggage operations
  5. disembark thousands of passengers
  6. get you through transportation and airport security

Give yourself room.

Because running through the airport dragging a suitcase behind you is not the cardio program Cruise Therapy recommends. 😂

When Norwegian Aura debuts in May 2027, one of its headline productions will celebrate the music of Whitney Houston.

According to the episode, the new 45-minute production was developed with the estate of Whitney E. Houston and Primary Wave Music and will feature live singers, a live band, choreography, immersive visuals, and performances extending beyond the main stage inside the three-story Aura Theater and Club.

Norwegian Aura will also feature other entertainment mentioned in the episode, including Illuminux, The Vinyl Republic, and the adults-only Lunatique Pop Circus.

The ship hasn’t even started sailing yet and apparently we already need concert tickets.

⚓ General Lori J. Robinson Named Godmother of Legend of the Seas

Speaking of legends…

Royal Caribbean has selected someone who already made history to serve as godmother of Legend of the Seas.

Retired U.S. Air Force General Lori J. Robinson will take on the ceremonial role.

Robinson served 37 years in the U.S. Air Force, and in 2016 became the first woman in U.S. history to lead a U.S. combatant command when she took command of U.S. Northern Command and NORAD.

NORAD—the North American Aerospace Defense Command—helps monitor and protect the airspace over the United States and Canada.

So basically…

While some of us were worried about whether our airline boarding position was B42…

General Robinson was responsible for the continent. 😂

Royal Caribbean plans to celebrate Robinson during the ship’s naming ceremony in Fort Lauderdale on Veterans Day, November 11.

The timing is intentional.

According to the episode, the ceremony will recognize both Robinson’s service and generations of military members among Royal Caribbean’s guests and crew.

Legend of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s third Icon Class ship. The episode notes that she entered service in Europe this summer and is expected to make her first transatlantic crossing in late October before beginning Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale.

Royal Caribbean needed a godmother for a ship called Legend.

🌴 San Diego’s Cruise Season Is Getting MUCH Busier

West Coast cruisers, San Diego is officially getting busier.

Ruby Princess arrived at San Diego’s B Street Pier to begin a seven-day Classic California Coast cruise—and also helped kick off what the Port of San Diego expects to be its largest cruise season in more than 15 years.

The numbers in the episode show just how dramatic the growth is.

For the 2026–2027 cruise season, San Diego expects:

The episode also notes that Disney and the Port of San Diego recently signed an agreement extending through at least 2031, which is expected to roughly double Disney’s cruise presence there.

Now let’s move from the cruise terminal to the theme park.

Because Disney World announced something that always gets my attention:

A discount.

Disney and savings in the same sentence?

Let me put my glasses on. 👓😂

According to the episode, Walt Disney World has released its first round of 2027 vacation offers.

Guests booking select four-night, four-day room-and-ticket packages may save up to $250 per night on qualifying stays between January 3 and July 28, 2027.

There are also room-only offers.

Because Disney vacation math gets complicated quickly:

Hotel.

Tickets.

Dining.

Flights.

Transfers.

Souvenirs.

  • cancellation terms
  • what you were planning to purchase anyway
  • total vacation cost

Sometimes a promotion can save you hundreds.

Other times?

Changing your trip by one day might save you even more.

And if you already have a future trip booked, check whether a newly released offer can be applied to your existing reservation.

The prettiest discount banner does not always equal the cheapest vacation.

Compare before you click.

Cruise Family, today’s Boarding Call has pricing drama, a dramatic medical rescue at sea, one of Carnival’s most recognizable funnels making a comeback, an alleged cruise scam that somehow ends in a hot-tub confrontation, and an important recovery update from Kauaʻi.

Royal Caribbean is canceling some Port Day Casita reservations after guests booked them at an incorrect price. A Disney Wonder crew member required an emergency medical evacuation off British Columbia. Carnival Freedom is finally getting her whale-tail funnel back. And one cruise guest says she booked the same sailing as the person she alleges scammed her out of nearly $1,100—just so she could confront him onboard.

And yes, Cruise Cousins…

apparently the confrontation happened in the hot tub. 😳

Here’s what happened.

💸 Royal Caribbean Says That $120 Casita Was Too Good to Be True

You know that feeling when you’re shopping in the Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner, see a great deal, and immediately hit Book Now before the price has time to change?

Some cruisers reportedly did exactly that with Port Day Casitas aboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon-class ships.

According to the episode, some guests found Casitas priced below $200, with at least one cruiser reporting a confirmed reservation for just $120.

Confirmation received.

Vacation fantasy activated.

Poolside luxury secured.

And then came…

The email.

Royal Caribbean reportedly told affected guests that the price had been displayed incorrectly and that some reservations would be canceled.

Guests were expected to receive full refunds to their original payment method, reportedly within 14 business days.

But here’s where things got interesting.

In at least one example discussed in the episode, that same Casita later appeared at approximately $384.

Cruise Cousins…

That is not a price adjustment.

That price went away, went to college, earned a degree, and came back with student loans. 😂

The cancellations reportedly involved Port Day Casitas associated with Royal Caribbean’s Icon class, including:

  • Icon of the Seas
  • Star of the Seas
  • future Legend of the Seas

Cruise lines generally reserve the right to correct genuine pricing errors.

But from the guest perspective?

You saw the price.

You paid the price.

You received the confirmation.

So naturally, some cruisers are thinking:

“That sounds like a YOU problem.”

Others are saying that if the price was clearly an error, they understand Royal Caribbean canceling it and issuing a refund.

I already know this comment section will be divided.

🚁 Disney Wonder Crew Member Rescued at Sea

Now to a much more serious story.

A crew member aboard Disney Wonder required an emergency medical evacuation on September 8 while the ship was sailing from Vancouver toward Alaska.

At the time, the ship was approximately 182 kilometers north of Port Hardy, off northern Vancouver Island.

The emergency call went to the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron.

According to the episode, the response included a rescue helicopter and a Kingfisher aircraft.

The aircraft arrived first and helped coordinate the operation with the ship’s captain.

Then the helicopter arrived.

Two search-and-rescue technicians were lowered onto Disney Wonder while the ship reduced speed to approximately five knots.

The injured crew member and accompanying medical personnel were then hoisted into the helicopter and flown to British Columbia, where the patient was transferred to an air ambulance for additional care.

There is nothing funny about someone being seriously injured at sea.

But there is something worth recognizing here.

Think about the coordination involved:

  • cruise ship officers
  • flight crews
  • search-and-rescue technicians
  • medical professionals
  • emergency personnel on shore

All working together far from a major city.

We spend a lot of time talking about the fun side of cruising.

But situations like this remind us that behind the scenes are trained professionals prepared for moments passengers and crew hope never happen.

We’re wishing that crew member a strong recovery.

🔥 Carnival Freedom Is Getting Her Whale Tail Back

Now let’s talk about a lady who has been through enough.

And that lady is:

Carnival Freedom.

Carnival Freedom entered dry dock in France on September 1, and footage from the shipyard showed something Carnival fans have been waiting to see:

Her iconic whale-tail funnel is coming back.

Why is this such a big deal?

Because Freedom hasn’t had one funnel fire.

She’s had two.

The first occurred in May 2022 while the ship was docked in Grand Turk.

The damage was significant enough that they had to remove one of the funnel fins.

Carnival later restored the whale-tail design during another dry dock.

Then, in March 2024, another funnel fire occurred while the ship was sailing in the Bahamas.

Once again, the funnel was damaged, and Carnival Freedom has been operating with a modified straight funnel ever since.

Now?

The whale tail is returning.

At this point, Freedom needs to come out of dry dock like:

“Don’t call it a comeback.”

Hair done.

Nails done.

Funnel done.

The episode also notes that the ship may receive a new From Sea to Shining Sea bow crest.

Carnival Freedom is expected to remain in dry dock through October 9 before returning to service.

Cruise Family…

Protect that funnel.

Wrap it in bubble wrap.

Hire security.

Put velvet ropes around it.

Whatever you need to do.

Because Ms. Freedom has been through enough. 😂

😳 “You Did WHAT?” — Alleged Cruise Scam Leads to Hot-Tub Confrontation

Cruise Cousins…

This next story goes directly into the:

“You did WHAT?” category.

A woman who says she was scammed out of nearly $1,100 reportedly decided she wasn’t going to sit home and stay angry.

She booked the same cruise.

According to the account discussed in the episode, Vanessa Phillips said she had agreed to take an MSC cruise with a former associate and received booking information, invoices, and itinerary details.

She says she ultimately sent nearly $1,100 toward the trip.

Then communication allegedly stopped.

Phillips says she later contacted MSC Cruises and discovered that the situation was not what she believed she had paid for.

So what did she do?

She reportedly booked herself aboard MSC Seascape sailing from Galveston and eventually confronted the person she says took her money.

At Guest Services?

No.

At the security desk?

No.

Cruise Family…

She reportedly found him in the hot tub.

Imagine sitting peacefully in the bubbles, living your best cruise life, when somebody walks up with a camera asking:

“Where’s my $1,100?”

Honey.

Turn those jets off.

We’re about to have a meeting. 😂

Phillips reportedly said her goal was to get an explanation and document the encounter, not physically harm anyone.

She also said she reported the alleged scam to authorities, including the FBI.

It’s important to emphasize that these are allegations, and the dispute had not been adjudicated in court when the episode aired.

Still…

This story hides a very useful travel lesson.

And thankfully, it does not involve booking another cruise to chase somebody down at the hot tub.

🌺 Kauaʻi Continues Recovering After Hurricane Lowell

Finally, Kauaʻi needs some time to heal.

The episode reports that the island continues recovering from the destructive impact of Hurricane Lowell.

And this is one of those travel stories where we need to separate:

“Hawaii is closed”

from:

“One island is dealing with a serious recovery.”

As of September 12, approximately 75% of Kauaʻi reportedly had power restored, although roughly 9,000 utility customers were still without electricity.

Some roads had reopened.

The airport had returned to regular power.

Water systems had been restored.

But substantial recovery work remained.

The episode notes that:

  • state parks and forest reserves remained closed
  • Port Allen remained closed to commercial traffic
  • cruise ships were not calling at the local harbor
  • an island-wide brown-water advisory remained in effect

That water advisory matters because storm runoff can carry sewage, bacteria, chemicals, and debris into coastal waters.

Hawaii tourism officials were reportedly encouraging travelers with upcoming trips specifically to Kauaʻi to consider postponing, rescheduling, or temporarily moving their vacation to another Hawaiian island.

That does not necessarily mean canceling Hawaii altogether.

When a destination is recovering from a natural disaster, residents may need priority access to:

  • roads
  • fuel
  • food
  • electricity
  • emergency services
  • repair crews
  • supplies

And sometimes the most respectful thing travelers can do is give the destination a little time.

Kauaʻi will welcome visitors again.

For now?

Let the island heal.

💳 Travel Tip of the Day: Know Who You’re Paying

Today’s alleged cruise-scam story gives us an important travel reminder:

Know exactly who is receiving your vacation money.

If you are booking through a travel advisor or agency:

  • verify the business
  • make sure you receive a legitimate invoice
  • understand who is processing your payment
  • confirm whether the cruise line, supplier, or agency is charging your card
  • keep copies of receipts and confirmations

And be especially cautious about sending large travel payments directly to an individual using:

  • Cash App
  • Zelle
  • Venmo
  • other person-to-person payment services

unless you completely understand who is receiving the money and why.

After making a payment, verify the reservation whenever possible.

Log into the cruise line’s website or app and confirm:

✅ Your booking number
✅ Your name
✅ Your cabin
✅ Your sailing date
✅ The amount paid

Trust is wonderful.

Verification is better.

Because the last place we need to settle a financial disagreement…

is in the hot tub. 😂

🤠 Carnival Tropicale Says “Howdy, Y’all”

Carnival Cruise Line has officially opened reservations for Carnival Tropicale, while construction on the future ship reaches another major milestone at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

And because Tropicale will eventually call Galveston, Texas home, Carnival brought a little Texas flavor all the way to Germany.

Think:

  • Cowboy hats
  • Western attire
  • Texas decorations
  • Barbecue
  • Plenty of Lone Star energy

Somewhere in Germany, somebody was probably looking around that shipyard thinking:

“Why does everybody suddenly look like they’re heading to a rodeo?” 😂

Carnival Tropicale will become the fifth and final ship in Carnival’s Excel class and is scheduled to begin sailing from Galveston in April 2028.

The ship is leaning heavily into its Texas connection, including a Star of Texas displayed on the bow.

Planned itineraries include four-, five-, six-, and eight-day cruises visiting destinations such as:

  • Celebration Key
  • RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay
  • Isla Tropicale in Roatán
  • Puerta Maya in Cozumel
  • Progreso
  • Nassau

And Carnival is packing the ship with family-friendly attractions.

One of the biggest additions is Sunsation Point, featuring Carnival WaterWorks Ultra with six waterslides, plus a Route 66-inspired miniature golf course, an adventure trail, retro arcade-style entertainment, and new dining concepts.

Six waterslides?

At my age, I just need to know one thing:

Is there an elevator back to the top?

I will absolutely slide down.

⏰ Carnival Venezia Guests: Please Stop Showing Up Early

Carnival had a message for guests boarding Carnival Venezia in Manhattan:

Please arrive during your assigned terminal appointment.

Translation?

Stop showing up three hours early. 😂

Carnival Venezia was scheduled to depart New York for a four-night Bermuda cruise, and because embarkation was expected to be busy, Carnival reminded guests to follow the arrival appointment selected during online check-in.

Not two hours before.

Not:

“Well, my friend’s appointment is at 10:30, so I came with her.”

Your appointment, friends.

Not hers. 😂

The arrival-time system is designed to spread thousands of passengers throughout the day instead of having everyone descend on the terminal at once.

That matters even more in New York, where the cruise terminal is much smaller than major embarkation hubs such as Miami or Port Canaveral.

Arriving too early can mean:

  • more congestion
  • longer waits
  • crowded terminal areas
  • being asked to wait until your actual appointment anyway

So if your appointment says 12:30 p.m., that does not mean standing outside the terminal at 9:15 a.m. staring through the gates.

Go eat breakfast.

Have a second cup of coffee.

Enjoy late checkout if you have it.

The ship will still be there.

💔 Family Mourns Passenger After Serious Sun Princess Accident

Now we move to a much more serious story.

A Minnesota family is mourning the loss of Stephen Junker, 58, a pastor and father of five who died after suffering a severe injury aboard Sun Princess.

According to the family account discussed in the episode, Junker was traveling in Italy with relatives to celebrate his son’s wedding.

On August 16, he reportedly fell into a swimming pool aboard the ship and was found face down and unresponsive.

He had suffered a serious spinal cord injury.

The Sun Princess medical team responded, and he was transferred ashore to Naples, Italy, for emergency care, where he underwent surgery.

His family later arranged his return to the United States.

On August 23, he was transferred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for additional treatment.

Sadly, doctors determined that his injuries could not be successfully treated, and he died on September 4, surrounded by family and friends.

Princess Cruises expressed condolences to his loved ones.

Junker served as pastor of Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon, Minnesota, for nearly a decade and was remembered by those close to him as someone devoted to his family, faith, and helping others.

This family boarded a cruise expecting to celebrate a wedding.

They came home facing an unimaginable loss.

Today, we simply extend our condolences to his wife, children, family, church family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched.

🎄 Disney Magic Adds More Holiday Magic

Let’s end with something lighter.

Usually, when cruise passengers get an itinerary-change email, somebody is asking:

“Why did they take away my port?”

But guests booked on the December 22 Very Merrytime sailing aboard Disney Magic from Galveston reportedly received the opposite kind of surprise.

Disney Cruise Line added another port to the five-night holiday itinerary.

Originally, the sailing featured Progreso, Mexico, along with multiple sea days.

Now, booked guests are getting extra destination time.

That is the kind of email I want to receive.

Not:

“Dear Guest, due to operational considerations…”

Because when an email starts like that, your itinerary is about to get rearranged like living-room furniture. 😂

I want:

“Dear Guest, SURPRISE! We bought you another vacation.”

The Very Merrytime sailing already includes:

  • Christmas decorations
  • holiday entertainment
  • seasonal character appearances
  • festive activities
  • holiday-themed experiences

And now?

Another place to explore.

Disney basically said:

Merry Christmas, baby. We got you a port. 🎁🚢

And that gift doesn’t need batteries.

🚢 Travel Tip of the Day: Your Arrival Appointment Is There for a Reason

Today’s Carnival Venezia story gives us the perfect embarkation reminder.

Arriving extremely early does not necessarily mean you’ll board earlier.

Before embarkation morning:

  • check your boarding pass
  • verify your cruise terminal
  • confirm your arrival appointment
  • allow extra travel time for traffic
  • know where you can wait if you arrive in the area early

If you get to the port area ahead of schedule, consider:

  • staying at your hotel a little longer
  • grabbing breakfast
  • having coffee nearby
  • relaxing somewhere outside the terminal

There is an important difference between:

Getting to the port area early

and

Walking into the terminal early

We want you early enough that you don’t miss the ship.

We do not need you early enough to help them tie the ship to the dock. 😂

Grab your boarding pass—and apparently keep an eye on that carry-on if it starts moving and making eye contact. 🦞😂

Here’s what travelers need to know.

🏔️ Norwegian Joy Drops Skagway and Sitka From a Future Alaska Cruise

If you’ve ever planned an Alaska cruise, you already know the itinerary can be just as important as the ship.

Passengers booked aboard Norwegian Joy’s May 19, 2028 sailing recently received notice of significant itinerary changes.

The 10-night round-trip cruise from Seattle was originally scheduled to include several popular Alaska destinations, including Skagway, Sitka, Icy Strait Point, Ketchikan, glacier scenic cruising, and Victoria.

As of this current episode:

Skagway is out.

Sitka is out.

And Whittier is in.

The glacier scenic cruising day and the call at Icy Strait Point are also shifting, while Ketchikan remains on the itinerary, but the visit is shortened by about four hours.

Norwegian reportedly cited berth availability as the reason for the changes.

Basically, somewhere along the way there wasn’t enough room at the dock—and one change created several others.

That’s exactly why Alaska cruisers can get emotional about itinerary changes.

Nobody books Skagway and says:

“Eh, I really don’t care if we go.”

No.

People have train rides planned.

Whale-watching excursions booked.

Helicopter tours.

Glaciers.

Dog sledding.

And approximately 47 layers of clothing already sitting in an Amazon cart. 😂

Fortunately, this cruise is still more than 20 months away, giving guests plenty of time to reassess their plans.

But if Sitka or Skagway was the main reason you selected this sailing, now is the time to review the revised itinerary.

🚨 Federal Indictment Follows Alleged Cruise Ship Bomb Threat

Now we move to a much more serious story.

Federal prosecutors announced that a 20-year-old Chicago man has been indicted in connection with an alleged threat involving passengers aboard a cruise ship.

According to the federal indictment described in the episode, the alleged threat was made during a recorded call on December 6, 2025.

Prosecutors allege that the caller claimed he was aboard a cruise ship returning from the Bahamas, had a bomb onboard, and intended to blow up the vessel.

Authorities did not publicly identify the cruise ship at the time.

The case was investigated by the FBI and is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. If convicted, the defendant could face up to five years in prison.

It is important to emphasize:

An indictment is an accusation—not a conviction.

The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

There really isn’t a joke here.

Threats like these can affect passengers, crew members, law enforcement officers, port workers, and emergency responders.

Even when a threat ultimately turns out to be false, authorities still have to treat the response as real.

That can mean:

  • searches
  • diversions
  • evacuations
  • delays
  • emergency responses
  • frightened passengers and crew

Some things simply don’t belong anywhere near a cruise vacation.

This is one of them.

🍹 MSC World Asia Is Adding Five New Bars and Lounges

Okay, Cruise Family.

We needed something lighter.

And apparently MSC World Asia heard the call.

“GFree, paging GFree. Please come to the bar.”

Actually…

Come to FIVE of them. 😂

MSC Cruises has unveiled five new bar and lounge concepts for MSC World Asia, debuting on December 4, 2026.

And one venue clearly understood the assignment.

🥤 Clubhouse and Soda Bar Brings Back the ’80s and ’90s

The Clubhouse and Soda Bar is inspired by the 1980s and 1990s.

Guests will be able to create custom sodas using different:

  • soda bases
  • creams
  • flavors
  • toppings

The venue will also feature games, interactive digital tables, and a nearby LEGO area.

Then at night?

The vibe grows up a little with cocktails, mocktails, and a more social atmosphere.

So during the day:

Saved by the Bell.

At night:

Miami Vice. 😂

✈️ American Airlines and Hyatt Are Changing Their Loyalty Relationship

From the cruise terminal…

to the airport.

American Airlines and Hyatt are ending their enhanced loyalty partnership.

According to the episode, the companies announced that they mutually decided not to continue the expanded relationship between American Airlines AAdvantage and World of Hyatt.

But before anyone starts deleting apps…

Slow down.

The partnership is not disappearing overnight.

Members may continue earning or using certain eligible benefits through the applicable earning periods.

One date mentioned in the episode is especially important:

November 15, 2026

Members who link their American Airlines and Hyatt accounts by that deadline may preserve certain benefits for a little longer.

So grab your boarding pass, check that carry-on for suspicious amounts of rubber ducks, and let’s unpack today’s biggest cruise and travel headlines.

🚢 Hero of the Seas Is Officially Floating

Royal Caribbean’s next Icon Class giant has reached a major construction milestone.

Hero of the Seas officially floated out at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, moving from dry dock to the outfitting pier, where crews will continue installing interior spaces, waterslides, decking, artwork, and all the finishing details that transform a giant steel structure into a cruise ship.

And when I say “floated out,” Cruise Cousins, we are not talking about somebody turning on a garden hose.

According to the episode, they filled the dry dock with more than 90 million gallons of water overnight.

Ninety. Million. Gallons.

That’s not filling a shipyard.

That’s recreating the Atlantic Ocean in a parking space. 😂

Hero of the Seas will become the fourth Icon Class ship, joining Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas, and Legend of the Seas.

The ship is scheduled to debut from Miami on August 11, 2027, with a three-night inaugural sailing to Perfect Day CocoCay before beginning regular seven-night Caribbean cruises.

And yes, eventually Dolly, the newly named Chief Dog Officer, is expected to come aboard too.

The ship isn’t even finished yet, and the dog already has a J-O-B.

Some of us may need to reevaluate our career planning. 😂

🦆 Cruise Ducks Are Getting More Rules

Now let’s talk about one of the most controversial passengers who has never paid cruise fare:

Cruise duck hiding is still alive and well, but several cruise lines are placing more boundaries around the popular tradition.

🏝️ Ocean Cay Is Preparing for Two Ships at Once

MSC apparently looked at one ship docked at Ocean Cay and said:

“We have room for another.”

Beginning in late 2027, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is expected to start welcoming two ships at the same time.

A second berth is being added as part of a broader expansion project.

The first scheduled double call mentioned in the episode is November 16, 2027, when MSC Seaside and MSC Grandiosa are both expected to spend the night at Ocean Cay.

Then on December 19, 2027, MSC plans an even bigger pairing:

MSC World America and MSC World Atlantic.

Apparently, cruise ships decided to put the LABOR in Labor Day this weekend. 😂🚢

Today’s Your Daily Boarding Call brought us three cruise headlines that sounded dramatic at first—but fortunately, none resulted in reported serious injuries.

A fire broke out aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s future flagship while the ship is still under construction. Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas temporarily lost power at sea. And passengers aboard Quantum of the Seas suddenly found themselves looking at an indoor waterfall that definitely wasn’t listed in the Cruise Compass.

Here’s what happened—and what cruisers should remember when something unexpected happens onboard.

🔥 Norwegian Aura Isn’t Even Sailing Yet—and She’s Already Making Headlines

Norwegian Cruise Line’s future flagship, Norwegian Aura, is currently under construction in Italy.

On Friday, August 28, shipyard workers reportedly spotted a large cloud of black smoke rising from the vessel.

Yes, Crewmates.

The ship hasn’t even started carrying passengers yet, and somebody already had to ask:

“Is that supposed to be smoking?” 😳

Fortunately, the incident appears to have been much less serious than the images of black smoke might have suggested.

According to the reports referenced in the podcast, the fire started inside a container holding construction waste and debris aboard the vessel. The shipyard’s emergency team responded and contained the fire.

No injuries or significant damage were reported.

Norwegian Aura remains scheduled to debut in May 2027. After an inaugural Mediterranean season, the ship is expected to sail year-round Caribbean itineraries from Miami and carry nearly 3,900 guests.

And listen…

When Norwegian Aura officially enters service, the only smoke I want to see aboard that ship should be coming from:

  • 🥩 the steakhouse
  • 🚬 somebody’s cigar after dinner

💡 Adventure of the Seas Goes Dark for About 30 Minutes

From fire…

to darkness.

Guests aboard Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas experienced an unexpected shipwide power outage after departing Perfect Day at CocoCay during an eight-night Southern Caribbean cruise from Port Canaveral.

Suddenly:

  • stateroom lights went dark
  • elevators stopped operating
  • dining service temporarily paused
  • Passengers started using their phones as flashlights

Emergency lighting remained available, and the captain reportedly announced that the crew was working to restore power.

Electricity returned roughly 30 minutes later.

No injuries were reported, and the ship’s itinerary appeared to continue normally.

Royal Caribbean had not publicly confirmed the exact cause of the outage at the time discussed in the podcast.

Thirty minutes doesn’t sound terribly long.

Unless you’re on a cruise ship.

In the dark.

In the middle of the ocean.

And especially if you happen to be inside an elevator.

Suddenly three minutes starts feeling like:

“Okay…who knows how to build a raft?” 😂

Fortunately, cruise ships have emergency lighting, backup systems, and technical crews trained to respond when something goes wrong.

Because the last thing I want to hear during dinner is:

“Would you like your steak medium rare…or lights out?”

💦 Quantum of the Seas Gets an Indoor Waterfall Nobody Ordered

Apparently Royal Caribbean wasn’t finished.

Passengers aboard Quantum of the Seas recently discovered a new attraction that definitely wasn’t listed in the Cruise Compass:

An indoor waterfall.

Video shared online reportedly showed water pouring down a stairwell near the Royal Esplanade while the ship was sailing near Cabo San Lucas.

Because stormy weather was occurring outside, some passengers initially assumed the flooding was connected to the weather.

Guest reports, however, indicated that a pipe near the men’s restroom around the midship elevator area may have caused the water leak.

Crew members quickly blocked off the affected area as water poured down the staircase and collected below.

Reports from guests aboard the following sailing suggested there were no obvious signs of the previous leak, indicating that cleanup and repairs were completed fairly quickly.

Royal Caribbean had not issued a public statement about the incident at the time of the podcast.

I know cruise lines are constantly looking for innovative onboard attractions.

But this one?

Quantum already has enough going on.

Today’s stories offer an important reminder for every cruiser.

When something unusual happens aboard your ship:

Follow crew instructions.

If there is:

  • a power outage
  • a water leak
  • a fire alarm
  • a medical incident
  • or another unexpected shipboard situation

listen carefully for announcements from the captain and crew.

Stay away from blocked-off areas.

Avoid crowding stairways and elevators.

And don’t automatically assume the worst because somebody posted:

“WE’RE SINKING!!!”

…while they’re sitting perfectly safely at the buffet. 😂

Sometimes a situation that looks dramatic on social media is handled by the crew within minutes.

Let the professionals do their jobs.

And one more thing:

Keep your shoes on.

Because wet stairs and flip-flops are not friends.

Royal Caribbean Cancels Beach Club Passes for a Private Charter

Imagine this.

You’re sailing to Nassau. You’ve visited before, so this time you decide to try something different.

You book a Royal Beach Club Paradise Island day pass.

You pay for it.

You already have the beach outfit planned.

You’re mentally holding a Coco Loco.

Then Royal Caribbean sends you a message that basically says:

“About that reservation…”

Guests scheduled to visit Nassau on January 23, 2027 are being told that their Royal Beach Club passes are being canceled because a charter sailing has reserved the entire beach club for the day.

There is no additional capacity.

The Good News: You Get a Refund

Royal Caribbean says affected guests will receive a full refund to their original payment method.

That helps.

But if the beach club was the main reason you were excited about Nassau?

Your plans just changed.

Three Royal Caribbean ships are scheduled to be in Nassau that day:

  • Allure of the Seas
  • Brilliance of the Seas
  • Utopia of the Seas

According to the episode, Allure of the Seas is carrying the charter group that booked the full beach club.

I understand both sides.

The charter group paid for exclusivity.

The other cruisers also paid and thought their plans were confirmed.

And somewhere somebody is staring at a matching beach hat, asking:

Why?

Carnival says there are simply too many Platinum guests onboard those sailings.

Which Benefits Are Affected?

It allows certain eligible people to request access through airport security even when they are not flying anywhere.

We have come full circle.

Why Would Someone Want Airport Access Without a Ticket?

There are plenty of reasons.

You might want to:

  • Walk a family member to the gate
  • Meet someone during a long layover
  • Greet an arriving traveler
  • Accompany an unaccompanied minor
  • Spend extra time with a loved one before departure
  • Access restaurants or amenities beyond security

The program is currently available at a limited number of airports.

  • LGBTQ-owned restaurants
  • Bars
  • Shops
  • Nightlife
  • Community spaces

The area is also home to the recently opened Philly Pride Visitor Center.
