🚢 Norwegian Bella Will Complete the Prima-Class Family

Norwegian Cruise Line has introduced the final member of its Prima-class family.

Her name is Norwegian Bella.

And cruise family, she isn’t even sailing yet and somebody is already looking at cabins.

Norwegian Bella is expected to become the sixth and final Prima-class ship, with her debut scheduled for May 2028. Bookings have already opened for her inaugural season.

Bella is expected to spend much of that first season sailing seven-night Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona, visiting destinations throughout Italy, France, Spain, and other European ports.

Guests can also expect several familiar Prima-class favorites, including:

  • Ocean Boulevard
  • A large pool deck
  • An expanded Haven experience
  • Mediterranean itineraries
  • Indoor and outdoor spaces inspired by the Prima-class design

Norwegian’s Prima family has already established a distinctive look and experience, and Bella will serve as the final chapter in that generation of ships.

And about that name…

Bella means beautiful.

So apparently the shipyard is under pressure.

You name her Bella?

She better come out looking like a goddess. 😂

🌊 What Makes the Prima Class Different?

Norwegian Cruise Line designed the Prima-class ships with a greater emphasis on outdoor spaces, modern architecture, elevated dining, and premium accommodations.

One signature feature is Ocean Boulevard, an outdoor promenade that wraps around much of the ship and connects guests to restaurants, lounging areas, ocean views, and entertainment spaces.

The class also puts a stronger spotlight on The Haven, Norwegian’s private ship-within-a-ship experience for guests seeking a more exclusive cruise vacation.

For cruisers already familiar with Norwegian Prima, Viva, and other ships in the class, Bella will provide another opportunity to experience that style of cruising—this time as the final ship in the series.

🚁 Dramatic Medical Evacuation From Odyssey of the Seas

Now for a much more serious story.

Strong winds.

Six-foot seas.

A passenger aboard the ship needed urgent medical care while sailing near Sicily on Friday, October 16, prompting a difficult medical evacuation by the Italian Coast Guard.

Conditions were far from ideal.

According to the original report, winds were around 25 miles per hour, and waves reached more than six feet.

A Coast Guard helicopter hovered above the ship while rescuers carefully lifted the ill passenger in a medical litter.

Rescuers successfully transferred the guest ashore for additional medical care.

No further details about the passenger’s condition were released.

Cruise family, situations like this demonstrate just how much coordination goes into an emergency at sea.

The operation involved:

  • Royal Caribbean’s bridge team
  • Onboard medical staff
  • Coast Guard personnel
  • Helicopter pilots
  • Emergency responders ashore

That takes incredible precision.

While nobody wants to see an emergency happen during a vacation, it is reassuring to know extensive plans and procedures are in place when serious medical situations arise.

⚕️ Medical Emergencies at Sea: What Cruisers Should Remember

Cruise ships have onboard medical facilities capable of treating many illnesses and injuries.

But certain emergencies may require transferring a passenger to a hospital on land.

Depending on where the ship is sailing, that can mean:

  • Diverting to another port
  • Meeting emergency boats at sea
  • Changing the ship’s itinerary
  • Arranging helicopter evacuation

Weather, distance from land, sea conditions, and the passenger’s medical needs can complicate those situations.

It’s also another reason travelers should consider travel protection that includes medical emergency and evacuation coverage.

🎄 Carnival Reveals When Christmas Is Coming to All 29 Ships

You may not want a lot for Christmas…

But if you’ve ever wondered exactly when your Carnival cruise ship becomes a floating Christmas card, Carnival has the answer.

The cruise line has released its 2026 holiday decorating schedule for all 29 ships.

The first ship scheduled to get festive is Carnival Encounter on November 22.

Most of Carnival’s fleet will receive its holiday transformation between late November and early December.

The final ship scheduled to receive its decorations will be Carnival Luminosa on December 14.

Professional decorating teams handle the transformation while each ship is at its home port.

And yes, the decorations are expected to remain onboard through the New Year’s Eve sailings.

So guests cruising during the holiday season can expect plenty of:

  • Christmas trees
  • Garlands
  • Holiday lights
  • Seasonal decorations
  • Festive photo opportunities
  • Holiday-themed activities

Cruise family, Halloween isn’t even finished, and Carnival basically said:

“Where are the Christmas decorations?” 🎄😂

And once that tree goes up?

🎅 Would You Book a Cruise Specifically for the Holidays?

Holiday sailings can create a very different onboard atmosphere.

For families, couples, and groups who already love cruising, spending Christmas or New Year’s Eve at sea can combine a traditional celebration with a vacation.

That can mean waking up on Christmas morning with an ocean view instead of worrying about who is cooking dinner.

And for travelers who love decorations, holiday music, and festive activities, watching a ship get its Christmas makeover can be part of the attraction.

So yes…

Sometimes the décor itself can help you choose which sailing.

✈️ JetBlue and Virgin Voyages Take Adults-Only Travel to 30,000 Feet

Virgin Voyages was already adults-only.

Apparently that wasn’t enough.

Somebody asked:

“But what about the flight?”

JetBlue Vacations and Virgin Voyages have teamed up for a special vacation package called Do Not Disturb.

And this adults-only getaway begins before passengers even reach the cruise ship.

The experience starts with an adults-only JetBlue flight from New York JFK to Fort Lauderdale.

Yes.

The entire flight is adults-only.

Guests then receive private transportation to Miami before boarding Virgin Voyages’ Brilliant Lady for a four-night adults-only cruise.

The itinerary includes:

  • Key West
  • The Beach Club at Bimini
  • Four nights aboard Brilliant Lady
  • Adults-only cruising from beginning to end

The trip is scheduled for March 2027, with only 60 cabins available.

Packages begin around $2,750 for two guests, including taxes, fees, and gratuities.

Extras are also expected to include:

  • Airport lounge access
  • Drinks aboard the flight
  • Priority boarding
  • Private transportation
  • A cabin bar tab aboard Brilliant Lady

Virgin said:

“No kids on the ship.”

JetBlue said:

“Keep that same energy.”

Now THAT is commitment to a theme. 😂

🌴 What Is Included in the “Do Not Disturb” Package?

The package creates an adults-only experience from airport departure through the cruise vacation.

Based on the original transcript, travelers can expect:

💡 Travel Tip of the Day: Don’t Book a Brand-New Ship Just to Be First

Norwegian Bella gives us today’s perfect travel reminder.

When a brand-new cruise ship opens for booking, don’t automatically choose the inaugural sailing simply because you want to say you were first.

Compare:

  • The inaugural voyage
  • The next few sailings
  • Cabin prices
  • Airfare
  • Pre-cruise hotels
  • Transportation
  • Cruise protection
  • Total vacation cost

The first sailing of a highly anticipated ship may come with premium pricing.

New ships can also occasionally experience:

  • Construction timeline adjustments
  • Venue changes
  • Schedule changes
  • Operational tweaks during early sailings

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be among the first passengers onboard.

Just make sure you’re not paying the:

“I need to post this before everybody else” price. 😂

Sometimes sailing a few weeks—or even a few months—later can provide essentially the same experience for less money.

🌀 Hurricane Trudy Disrupts Mexican Riviera Cruises

Hurricane Trudy rapidly intensified into a Category 3 hurricane early Friday, October 16, with maximum sustained winds of about 120 mph as it moved off Mexico’s Pacific coast. Later updates indicated fluctuations in strength, underscoring just how quickly tropical systems can change. National Hurricane Center

And cruise lines aren’t waiting around to see what happens next.

Norwegian Bliss Drops Acapulco

Norwegian Bliss, currently sailing a long repositioning voyage from Los Angeles, canceled its scheduled October 17 visit to Acapulco because of Hurricane Trudy.

Instead, guests are receiving another day at sea while the ship remains away from the storm and potentially dangerous conditions. Cruise Hive

That is exactly what cruisers should want cruise lines to do.

A missed port may be disappointing, but keeping passengers, crew members, and the ship safely away from hurricane-force winds and rough seas comes first.

🚢 Brilliant Lady Rerouted for the Fourth Cruise in a Row

Virgin Voyages’ Brilliant Lady is also feeling the effects of another tropical system in the Pacific.

The ship’s October 17 Mexican Riviera sailing was originally expected to visit Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta. But Hurricane Trudy forced another itinerary adjustment, replacing the scheduled Mexican ports as the cruise line kept the ship out of the storm’s path. Cruise Hive

That makes four consecutive Brilliant Lady sailings affected by tropical weather.

Cruise family, at this point Mother Nature has officially joined the itinerary-planning department.

Of course, weather-related itinerary changes can be frustrating—especially when guests booked excursions or chose a cruise specifically for certain ports. But when tropical systems are involved, flexibility is part of cruising.

The itinerary may change.

The destination may change.

The important thing is that the ship sails somewhere safe.

⚠️ Why Cruise Lines Change Itineraries During Hurricanes

Cruise ships have one major advantage during severe weather:

They can move.

Unlike a resort or coastal hotel, a cruise ship can change course, slow down, speed up, skip a port, or replace an itinerary entirely to avoid dangerous conditions.

Those decisions may happen quickly as forecasts evolve.

That’s why passengers sailing during hurricane season should always keep an eye on their cruise line’s app, email notifications, and official communications.

And yes, sometimes your carefully planned beach day becomes an unexpected sea day.

But a safe day at sea beats a front-row seat to a hurricane every time.

🚦 PortMiami Has a New Plan for Cruise-Day Traffic

Now let’s move from hurricane stress to another type of cruise stress:

PortMiami traffic.

If you’ve ever sat in a line of cars wondering whether your cruise ship might leave before you even reach the terminal, Miami has heard your cries.

PortMiami is preparing for a massive 2026–2027 cruise season, including 81 high-season days when 7 to 10 cruise ships could call at the port on the same day. DataPortuaria

That means tens of thousands of arriving and departing passengers, rideshares, buses, taxis, luggage trucks, and private vehicles all trying to navigate the port.

So PortMiami is rolling out several initiatives designed to reduce congestion.

What’s changing?

PortMiami’s traffic-management plan includes:

  • Better information about which port entrance passengers should use
  • Increased reminders to arrive during your assigned embarkation window
  • AI-powered traffic and congestion monitoring
  • Additional law-enforcement traffic support on select high-volume days
  • Coordinated airport shuttle programs with cruise lines
  • New educational videos explaining embarkation timing and port entrances

The port is using GridMatrix technology to help monitor congestion and coordinate traffic flow. DataPortuaria

Some cruise passengers, including certain Carnival Celebration guests, may also see additional airport shuttle options on select high-volume days.

Translation?

If your boarding time is 1:00 p.m., arriving at 8:47 a.m. probably won’t help anyone.

Miami gave you that arrival window for a reason.

🕐 Your Embarkation Time Actually Matters

Cruisers often think arriving several hours early means they’ll get onboard faster.

Sometimes it does the opposite.

Arriving well before your assigned window can contribute to:

  • Terminal crowding
  • Longer traffic lines
  • More rideshare congestion
  • Luggage bottlenecks
  • Passengers waiting outside before they’re permitted to check in

So unless your cruise line tells you otherwise, follow your assigned arrival time.

Cruise vacation goal:

Pool deck.

Not:

Three hours staring at the terminal from the back seat of an Uber.

🍽️ Disney Cruise Line Is Changing Palo Dinner Pricing

Disney cruisers who love Palo, pay attention.

The familiar prix-fixe dinner option is sailing away.

Beginning October 22, 2026, Disney Cruise Line will transition Palo, Palo Steakhouse, and Palo Trattoria from the traditional fixed-price dinner menu to à la carte pricing. Blog Mickey

Instead of paying one set price for dinner, guests will pay individually for the items they order.

The transition rolls out across Disney’s fleet over several days:

So Palo basically said:

💳 What Happens to the $55 Castaway Club Benefit?

Good news for some of Disney Cruise Line’s most loyal guests.

Platinum and Pearl Castaway Club members, along with eligible guests in the same stateroom, can keep a $55-per-person dinner credit toward eligible à la carte items. Small World Vacations

But there’s an important change:

The benefit is for dinner only.

It will not apply to Palo brunch.

Guests are also responsible for beverages, gratuities, and any amount that exceeds the $55 credit. Small World Vacations

If you already have Palo reservations, review the details before your cruise so you know what to expect when the bill arrives.

💡 Travel Tip of the Day

Today’s Hurricane Trudy and PortMiami stories offer two very good reminders.

1. Never assume your cruise itinerary is guaranteed during hurricane season

Ports can be changed, reordered, shortened, or canceled entirely.

Before your cruise:

  • Check your cruise line app frequently
  • Monitor your email
  • Review excursion cancellation policies
  • Be cautious with non-refundable independent tours
  • Keep travel insurance coverage and terms in mind

Flexibility can save you a lot of frustration when weather comes into play.

2. Respect your assigned embarkation time

Arriving at the port several hours early doesn’t automatically mean you’ll board the ship several hours early.

Sometimes it simply means:

More traffic. More waiting. More time staring at your ship while somebody tells you, “Your boarding group hasn’t opened yet.”

Cruise family, the goal is vacation.

Not traffic therapy.

MSC Cruises is bringing Eataly aboard its newest flagship, MSC World Asia. Dominica has officially kicked off what could be a very busy cruise season. Delta is giving its Delta One experience a serious luxury upgrade, while Southwest Airlines is preparing one of the biggest changes yet to its Rapid Rewards loyalty program.

Grab your boarding pass—and maybe something from the bar—because today’s cruise and travel news has a lot to unpack.

🍝 MSC World Asia Is Getting a Taste of Eataly

Apparently, more than 40 places to eat and drink aboard a cruise ship still weren’t enough.

MSC Cruises has announced that Eataly is coming aboard MSC World Asia, giving the upcoming flagship an even bigger dose of Italian flavor.

MSC World Asia will be only the second cruise ship to feature an Eataly restaurant at sea, following the concept’s debut aboard its sister ship, MSC World America. The new ship begins seven-night Mediterranean cruises on December 4, 2026.

And this isn’t simply a place to grab a plate of spaghetti.

The Eataly experience is expected to feature regional Italian favorites, freshly prepared dishes, show cooking, and an outdoor terrace where guests can pair Italian cuisine with ocean views. Guests can also visit the wine cellar at The Terrace Bar to choose an Italian wine to pair with dinner.

MSC World Asia will offer more than 40 bars, lounges, cafés and restaurants, giving travelers plenty of options throughout their cruise.

Or, as I like to imagine the conversation at MSC headquarters:

“Yes, we have more than 40 places to eat and drink…but where are the other pastas?”

🌴 Dominica Opens Its 2026–2027 Cruise Season

From Italian food at sea, we’re heading to the Caribbean.

Dominica—known as the Nature Island—has officially opened its 2026–2027 cruise season and is preparing for a significant influx of cruise visitors.

Royal Caribbean’s Rhapsody of the Seas opened the season on October 8, 2026, arriving at the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth with about 2,100 passengers on a seven-night Southern Caribbean itinerary from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The season’s numbers are impressive.

Dominica is expecting approximately:

  • 267 cruise ship calls
  • 475,521 cruise passengers
  • Visits from ships including Rhapsody of the Seas and MSC World Europa

The projected passenger count is nearly 50,000 higher than the previous season.

That’s important not only for cruisers looking for new Caribbean experiences, but also for Dominica’s local tourism economy. More cruise guests mean more business for tour guides, taxi operators, restaurants, retailers, craft vendors, and attractions throughout the island.

Dominica is famous for its lush rainforests, waterfalls, volcanic landscapes, hot springs and outdoor adventures, offering a much different Caribbean experience than destinations focused primarily on beaches and shopping.

Cruise family, Dominica basically said:

“Welcome to the Nature Island—and bring everybody!”

✈️ Delta One Is Getting Wagyu, Premium Wine and More Luxury

Now let’s head to the airport.

And economy passengers—you may want to look away for a moment.

Delta Air Lines is rolling out what it describes as one of the most extensive transformations of its Delta One premium experience in nearly 30 years, covering food, drinks, amenities, and onboard hospitality. The revamped experience begins on transoceanic Delta One routes departing Los Angeles, then expands across Delta’s international network in 2027.

What’s coming to Delta One?

Travelers can expect upgrades including:

  • 🍔 A Wagyu beef burger
  • 🐟 Regionally inspired sea bass and other upgraded entrées
  • 🍷 A new premium wine program
  • 🥃 Expanded premium beverage selections
  • 🍨 Elevated desserts, including a Champagne-and-sorbet pairing
  • 👜 New Missoni amenity kits
  • 😴 A new Missoni Mini pillow
  • 🍽️ More personalized onboard dining and service

Delta says it narrowed its new wine program from more than 1,600 evaluated wines to 13 selections from 11 winery partners.

Beginning November 3, the newest Missoni amenity kits will also include premium wellness products, while the new Missoni Mini pillow will eventually expand across transoceanic Delta One flights.

Wagyu beef, premium wine, Missoni accessories…

Meanwhile, somewhere farther back in the aircraft:

“Would you like pretzels and maybe some water?”

I’m kidding, economy flyers. Mostly. 😂

🥈🥇💎 Southwest Is Saying Goodbye to A-List as We Know It

And finally, Southwest Rapid Rewards is getting a major makeover, and its familiar A-List names are disappearing.

Beginning January 1, 2027, Southwest will replace its current two-tier elite structure with three levels:

Silver → Gold → Platinum

Under the new program:

  • A-List becomes Silver
  • A-List Preferred becomes Gold
  • Platinum becomes an entirely new top tier

Southwest will also introduce new Milestone Rewards and additional ways of earning Companion Pass benefits.

Here’s what qualification will look like:

Platinum will include some particularly interesting perks, including the ability to select any available seat—including Extra Legroom seats—at booking, board ahead of Gold members and Group 1, get up to three free checked bags, and enjoy unlimited Companion Pass trips.

Southwest also says additional Rapid Rewards improvements are coming, including more opportunities to use points beyond Southwest flights.

Essentially, Rapid Rewards looked in the mirror and said:

“New year. New tier. New me.”

What happens if you already earned status?

Good news for current members.

Travelers who earn A-List status for 2027 based on their 2026 activity will automatically transition to Silver, while those earning A-List Preferred will move to Gold beginning January 1. Existing Companion Pass benefits will also be honored according to their applicable expiration dates.

💡 Travel Tip of the Day: Don’t Chase Status Without Doing the Math

The Southwest announcement gives us today’s perfect travel reminder:

Never assume next year’s loyalty-program rules will match this year’s.

Airlines can change qualification requirements, credit-card benefits, boarding perks, baggage allowances, and the number of points needed to reach a particular level.

Before spending extra money to chase airline status, ask yourself:

  • How many flights or qualifying points do I actually need?
  • Which benefits will I really use?
  • Does credit-card spending help me qualify?
  • How much extra spending will it take to reach the next tier?
  • What is the real dollar value of those benefits to me?

Because sometimes the goalposts move.

And if you’re spending $1,000 to chase a perk worth $200, that’s not loyalty.

That’s expensive math. 😂

One story is especially serious: a woman who went overboard from Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas was found alive after spending nearly 20 hours at sea.

Then we’re talking about Norwegian Cruise Line guests receiving scam emails that appear unusually convincing because they contain real booking information.

And Carnival?

Well, your drink package may soon start acting a little more like airfare.

Odyssey of the Seas Guest Found Alive After Nearly 20 Hours at Sea

Cruise family, this is one of those stories that is hard to believe.

According to the original report discussed in the episode, a 44-year-old woman from El Salvador went overboard from Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas on Friday, October 9, while the ship was sailing through the Ionian Sea southwest of Zakynthos, Greece.

A major search followed, involving:

  • The Greek Coast Guard
  • Aircraft
  • Odyssey of the Seas
  • Nearby commercial ships

Then, approximately 20 hours later, the woman was found alive.

A cargo vessel reportedly spotted her inside a life ring, and Coast Guard crews brought her to safety before she was taken to a hospital.

Greek authorities said the woman later told rescuers that she had jumped because she wanted to disembark.

Investigators are still examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

This is an extraordinary survival story, but also a serious one. Rather than speculate about why it happened, the key facts are that a large-scale search was launched, rescuers found her alive, and authorities continue investigating the circumstances.

Norwegian Cruise Line Guests Report Highly Convincing Scam Emails

Now, Norwegian Cruise Line guests, this story deserves your attention.

Passengers began reporting suspicious emails around October 10, and these messages reportedly looked very convincing.

Why?

Because some contained actual reservation details, including:

  • Passenger names
  • Ship names
  • Sailing dates
  • Booking numbers

The fraudulent emails then asked guests to click a link to:

  • Verify credit card information
  • Complete a security check
  • Finish cruise check-in

According to the episode, Norwegian Cruise Line says the messages are fraudulent and is investigating.

And this is what makes scams like these particularly dangerous.

If an email knows your actual booking number, your first thought may be:

“Well, this must be real.”

Not necessarily.

The safest move is to avoid clicking the link entirely.

Instead:

Go directly to the cruise line’s official website.

Open the official cruise line app yourself.

Or contact your travel advisor.

Carnival Is Moving Toward Dynamic Pricing for Drink Packages and Wi-Fi

Your Carnival CHEERS! package may soon have something in common with airfare.

The price could depend on when and where you’re sailing.

Starting December 1, Carnival Cruise Line plans to change how it prices drink packages and Wi-Fi.

Instead of using one standard price across sailings, prices may vary based on factors such as:

  • Sailing length

Carnival had not announced the exact upper or lower limits of the new pricing structure at the time of the episode.

For comparison, the transcript notes that the pre-cruise CHEERS! package currently costs $69.95 per person, per day.

Under dynamic pricing, however, the cost could differ from one sailing to another.

Carnival Venezia Says Arrivederci to Its Yellow Funnel

Carnival Venezia has a new look.

On October 9, the ship’s former Costa Cruises-style yellow funnel was repainted in red, white, and blue.

But before Carnival fans start looking for the classic whale tail…

The funnel is still the same straight shape.

It hasn’t been converted into Carnival’s traditional whale-tail funnel, and according to the episode, Carnival hasn’t announced plans to end the ship’s Fun Italian Style branding.

So the Italian personality is staying.

The funnel just changed outfits.

Instead, take control yourself.

Type the cruise line’s official website into your browser.

Contact the cruise line directly.

Or contact your travel advisor.

And be especially suspicious of messages that create urgency with statements like:

“Act now or your cruise will be canceled.”

Cruise family, scammers love urgency.

Vacation planning should come with excitement—not panic.

In other words, we’ve got traffic drama, Disney magic, inaugural-cruise surprises, and a whale tail comeback.

Cruise Guest Arrested After Nassau Traffic Incident

Crewmates, there are shore excursions…

…and then there is deciding you are suddenly in charge of traffic control in Nassau.

According to the transcript, an American cruise guest visiting Nassau, Bahamas, allegedly stepped into traffic on West Bay Street to help a convoy of ATVs enter the roadway.

Video reportedly showed the guest blocking a vehicle, placing his hands on the hood, and later striking the driver-side window as the vehicle passed. The window broke.

A retired police officer reportedly witnessed the incident and contacted police. The guest was arrested and, according to the episode, had to pay $1,100 in damages.

Now, there’s an important takeaway here that goes beyond the unusual headline:

When you visit another country, you are subject to that country’s laws.

You are a visitor—not traffic control, port security, or local law enforcement.

Enjoy your excursion. Wave at the ATVs. Take pictures.

But please…

Keep your hands off somebody else’s car. 😬

Disney Believe Is Bringing Even More Disney Magic to Sea

Disney Cruise Line has revealed more details about the upcoming Disney Believe, and cruise family…

Disney is loading this ship up.

The new ship is scheduled to debut on December 18, 2027, sailing four- and five-night cruises from Port Everglades.

Bookings are expected to open on October 19, 2026.

Basically, Disney said:

Hero of the Seas Is Starting Earlier Than Expected

Thought you were booked on the first passenger sailing of Hero of the Seas?

Royal Caribbean basically said:

“Well… technically.” 😂

The cruise line has moved the ship’s passenger debut forward by 10 days.

Hero of the Seas had originally been scheduled to begin sailing on August 11, 2027.

Now, Royal Caribbean has added:

  • A seven-night Western Caribbean cruise on August 1
  • A three-night CocoCay getaway on August 8

Guests already booked on the original August 11 sailing can switch to one of the earlier cruises without a change fee through October 14, subject to availability and current pricing.

Cruise family, imagine telling everybody for months:

“I’m on the inaugural sailing!”

Then Royal Caribbean adds two cruises ahead of yours.

That is a very specific form of cruise heartbreak. 😂

Still, more sailings mean more chances for cruisers who want to be among the first on board.

Carnival Freedom Gets Her Classic Whale Tail Back

Carnival Freedom went into dry dock…

…and came back saying:

New funnel. New cruise. New me.

After 35 days in Marseille, France, Carnival Freedom is leaving dry dock with a brand-new version of Carnival’s classic whale-tail funnel.

The dry dock also included:

  • A redesigned casino
  • More than 100 additional gaming machines
  • Refreshed retail spaces
  • Accessibility improvements
  • Carnival’s newest bow crest

The ship is scheduled to return to service with an eight-night Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona.

For Carnival fans, though, the headline feature may be that familiar funnel.

She got her whale tail back.

And honestly?

Good for her. 😂

Carnival Tightens Cabin Rules for Teens and Young Adults

If you cruise Carnival with teenagers or young adults, pay attention to this update before booking.

Carnival has updated its minor guest policy for new bookings created this month.

Under the new rule, guests ages 15 through 20 who stay in a separate cabin must be located no more than three staterooms away from their responsible adult.

Previously, guests ages 18 through 20 could be booked elsewhere on the ship.

Cruise family, if your 19-year-old thought they were going to live their best life on Deck 14 while Mom and Dad minded their business down on Deck 6…

Carnival said:

“Bring that cabin a little closer.” 😂

Carnival also changed its group supervision requirement.

The previous rule allowed one adult for every eight minors.

Now, the requirement is one adult for every five minors.

There are still exceptions. According to the transcript, legally married guests and qualifying military members ages 18 through 20 may remain exempt with proper documentation.

Galveston Is Talking About a Fifth Cruise Terminal

Galveston already has cruise ships everywhere.

Apparently, the answer is:

Build another terminal.

The Galveston Wharves Board recently voted unanimously to keep negotiations moving for a potential fifth cruise terminal at Pier 14.

The port has reportedly been discussing the project with Royal Caribbean Group for roughly two years.

Nothing is final yet, but local officials decided to continue negotiations without waiting for a larger mobility study to be completed.

If the project moves forward, it would add even more cruise capacity to one of the country’s fastest-growing cruise homeports.

For Texas cruisers, that could eventually mean more ships, more itineraries, and more options without flying to Florida.

Disney Believe Gets a Little Tinker Bell Magic

The Disney Believe isn’t even finished yet, and apparently Tinker Bell has already moved onboard.

Disney’s newest ship reached another construction milestone during a keel-laying ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.

A specially minted coin featuring Tinker Bell was placed beneath the ship’s keel.

That tradition is centuries old and is intended to bring good fortune to the ship, her crew, and future passengers.

According to the transcript, the Disney Believe is expected to debut late in 2027.

For Disney Cruise Line fans, the keel-laying ceremony marks one of those exciting construction moments when a future ship begins to feel a little more real.

Walt Disney World Just Got More Expensive

Apparently, even pixie dust has inflation.

If you’re planning a Walt Disney World vacation, Mickey may need to have a serious conversation with your wallet.

Effective October 6, Walt Disney World increased prices for all four annual passes.

The biggest increase mentioned in the episode is the Incredi-Pass, which rises from:

$1,629 → $1,749

That’s a $120 increase.

The highest-priced one-day ticket is also expected to reach $229 on select peak days in 2027.

Now for the better news:

The lowest one-day ticket remains $119, and according to the transcript, multi-day ticket prices did not increase.

So yes…

Scarlet Lady’s Rhodes Collision Turns Into a Legal Fight

Last week’s Scarlet Lady incident in Rhodes, Greece, is no longer just a dramatic cruise-news story.

It has now moved into the legal arena.

According to the transcript, the owners of the catamaran King of Rhodes filed a claim seeking at least €400,000, or roughly $448,000, alleging that the September 30 collision caused vessel damage and lost business while the catamaran undergoes inspection and repair.

The owners also reportedly asked that Scarlet Lady be prevented from leaving Rhodes, but the ship was ultimately allowed to depart on October 1 after an insurance company provided a letter of guarantee.

That means we have officially moved from:

Royal Caribbean and MSC Team Up on a New Cruise Terminal in Japan

Now this is interesting.

Two cruise companies that usually compete for your vacation dollars—Royal Caribbean Group and MSC Cruises—are working together on a new cruise terminal in Okinawa, Japan.

According to the transcript, the groundbreaking was announced on October 5, and the project also involves the local port authority and Cruise Port Naha GK.

The new terminal is intended to support growing cruise traffic in Japan and East Asia and is expected to open in March 2028 if the project remains on schedule.

Cruise family, Royal Caribbean and MSC basically said:

“We may compete for passengers, but concrete is expensive. Let’s split the bill.” 😂

For travelers, though, this could mean something much more useful:

  • More opportunities to begin or end trips in Japan
  • Expanded East Asia itinerary options

And for travelers who already have Japan high on the bucket list, this may make future cruise planning even more interesting.

Carnival Radiance Returns From Dry Dock With a Fresh Look

Carnival Radiance is back.

And apparently, she came out of dry dock saying:

“New bow, who dis?” 😂

According to the transcript, Carnival Radiance completed a 15-day dry dock in Victoria, Canada, and guests boarding in Long Beach were among the first to see the updates.

The ship received:

  • Refreshed indoor guest spaces
  • Refreshed outdoor guest spaces
  • An updated Effy Jewelry boutique
  • Carnival’s new “From Sea to Shining Sea” bow crest

Carnival Radiance has now resumed its year-round schedule from Long Beach, including sailings to:

  • Baja Mexico
  • The Mexican Riviera
  • Select Hawaii itineraries

It’s a relatively short dry-dock period, but enough to give returning guests something fresh to notice.

Americans May Cut Back on Other Things—But Not Vacation

Apparently, Americans looked at the household budget and said:

Groceries? Maybe.
Streaming services? We’ll see.
Vacation? Don’t touch that. 😂

According to the transcript, a new MMGY survey found that U.S. travelers still plan to prioritize travel despite tighter budgets.

The survey cited in the episode says Americans expect to take nearly four leisure trips and spend an average of $5,655 over the next 12 months.

But people are getting more strategic.

About 35% said they are traveling during off-peak periods, while 32% said they are cutting back on everyday expenses to help pay for trips.

And that says a lot about how people are thinking about travel.

For many travelers, vacations are not just another line item.

They represent:

  • Quality time
  • Shared experiences
  • Family memories
  • Mental breaks
  • Something to look forward to

So when budgets tighten, many people may not eliminate travel.

They may simply be changing how and when they travel.

Scarlet Lady Breaks Free From the Dock in Rhodes

Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady had quite the overnight adventure while docked at the Port of Rhodes in Greece.

According to the episode, the ship stayed overnight in Rhodes because of bad weather and high winds near Mykonos, but strong waves and heavy swells caused several of Scarlet Lady’s mooring lines to snap.

Once those lines failed, the ship began moving away from the pier.

The gangway fell into the water, and Scarlet Lady drifted across the harbor, where it struck a catamaran and two other smaller boats.

Fortunately, the episode reported:

  • No guest injuries
  • No crew injuries
  • No reported marine pollution

Now let’s talk about the kind of email that can make a cruiser double-check their reservation.

Some guests booked on Ovation of the Seas were notified that the specific cabins they selected would no longer be their assigned staterooms.

The affected passengers mentioned in the episode were booked on an October 12 four-night sailing to Catalina Island and Ensenada.

Royal Caribbean reportedly said the changes were necessary because the original staterooms’ assigned occupancies needed adjustment. While the cruise line worked on new accommodations, it temporarily changed some reservations to guaranteed status.

And that distinction matters.

Many travelers pay extra to select a specific cabin because they want:

  • A particular deck
  • A specific location
  • Easy access to elevators
  • Distance from elevators
  • Cabins close to family or friends
  • A preferred section of the ship

One passenger referenced in the episode said they paid approximately $300 or more for the privilege of selecting their exact stateroom.

Royal Caribbean said replacement cabins would be in the same category or possibly an upgraded category, but passengers reported mixed experiences with compensation. Some said they received upgrades or onboard credit, while others said nothing had been guaranteed.

Carnival Brings Back the Full Old-School Muster Drill—But Only on Select Sailings

Longtime cruisers, you remember this one.

Everybody gathers at the muster station.

Attendance is checked.

Life jackets are demonstrated.

You hear:

Seven short blasts and one long blast.

And somebody inevitably shows up late while everybody else waits.

The full traditional muster drill is returning on six Carnival sailings, but before anyone starts panicking, the episode makes an important distinction:

Carnival is not permanently eliminating the e-muster system.

These are periodic full in-person safety drills required under maritime regulations.

The episode identified the affected ships as:

Carnival Spirit, Carnival Luminosa, Carnival Legend, Carnival Radiance, Carnival Forenze, and Carnival Miracle.

During the traditional drill:

  • Guests report to their assigned muster stations
  • Crew members check attendance
  • Life jackets are demonstrated
  • The emergency signal is played
  • Food and beverage service pauses temporarily

Each Carnival ship conducts this type of full drill twice a year to meet safety standards, according to the episode.

Royal Caribbean announced that a SpongeBob SquarePants musical will be featured aboard Hero of the Seas.

The production is expected to debut when the ship begins sailing from Miami in August 2027.

The show will be inspired by the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical and will be performed inside the ship’s Royal Theater.

The story follows SpongeBob and his friends as they try to save Bikini Bottom from a volcanic disaster.

And Royal Caribbean appears to be going all-in on the production.

Auditions were already underway for:

  • Singers
  • Dancers
  • Tap performers
  • Roller skaters
  • Aerial performers

So this is not simply somebody putting on a SpongeBob costume and waving to the kids.

This is being planned as a full theatrical production.

Federal authorities say an ongoing Boston operation has resulted in 87 foreign cruise crew members being removed. Harmony of the Seas had a burst pipe send warm water into a passenger corridor. And both Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean are changing pricing and cancellation rules.

Florida Mother Arrested After Returning From a Cruise

This first story is difficult.

A 29-year-old North Miami Beach mother is facing four counts of child neglect after police allege she left four young children home without adult supervision while she went on a cruise to the Bahamas.

Authorities identified the woman as Nathalie Belizaire. According to court documents cited in the episode, the children included a two-month-old infant, a two-year-old, and two other young children.

Police say the children were discovered on Saturday, September 26, after the infant’s father went to the home and found them without an adult present. He then called 911.

According to the arrest affidavit, he had previously seen a social-media post that appeared to show Belizaire purchasing a Carnival cruise ticket.

Belizaire allegedly told investigators she intended for the children’s great-grandmother to watch them, but authorities say no supervising adult was present when officers arrived. She was arrested after returning from the cruise.

It’s important to be precise here:

These are criminal allegations. Belizaire is entitled to the presumption of innocence, and the court system still has to resolve the charges. Cruise Family, we all understand wanting a break.

Sometimes you want three, four, or seven days where nobody asks you for anything.

But when young children are involved, their safety has to come first.

This is one best left with investigators and the courts.

Federal Operation in Boston Has Removed 87 Cruise Crew Members

Now to another serious story.

Federal authorities say an ongoing operation in Boston targeting child sexual abuse and exploitation material among cruise ship crew members has resulted in the removal of 87 foreign cruise crew members.

The operation is called Operation Tidal Wave and involves:

  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection
  • Homeland Security Investigations
  • Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force

CBP announced on September 25 that officers at the Port of Boston had removed 87 foreign cruise crew members during the ongoing investigation.

The latest publicly detailed enforcement action cited in the transcript occurred on September 20, when six Filipino crew members from Norwegian Breakaway were removed.

According to CBP, those six admitted during secondary interviews to previously possessing child sexual abuse or exploitation material.

In a separate but related Boston case, federal prosecutors also announced charges against Norwegian Jewel crew members accused of transporting child sexual abuse material.

That case remains pending in court.

Because these matters involve extremely serious allegations and ongoing federal investigations, it’s important not to go beyond what authorities have publicly stated.

The main takeaway is that the operation is ongoing, and Boston remains one of the ports where federal teams are actively screening crew members for this type of material.

Harmony of the Seas Gets an Unexpected Indoor Water Feature

Now we can lighten things up a little.

Passengers aboard Harmony of the Seas reportedly got a surprise when a pipe burst onboard and warm water began pouring into a hallway.

The water flooded the corridor and reportedly affected several nearby cabins.

One passenger shared video online and said the water was so warm it was actually steaming up her phone.

Passengers reported that the crew responded quickly, the affected area was being handled, and there was no indication at the time that the ship’s overall itinerary had been disrupted.

Pipe failures can happen in:

  • Hotels
  • Houses
  • Office buildings
  • and yes, cruise ships

But Crewmates, if I open my cabin door and somebody says:

“Be careful. The carpet is 110 degrees.”

I’m turning right back around. 😂

Princess Plus and Premier Packages Are Getting More Expensive

Now let’s talk about something else getting hot:

Cruise prices.

Princess Cruises is changing both its Princess Plus and Princess Premier packages for sailings departing on or after October 13.

Both packages will increase by $5 per person, per day.

The new pre-cruise pricing will be:

  • Princess Plus: $65 → $70 per person, per day
  • Princess Premier: $100 → $105 per person, per day

And guests who wait until they are onboard will pay more.

Princess is also changing standalone Wi-Fi.

The current four-device standalone Wi-Fi option is going away, and a two-device option is being added instead.

Now $5 a day may not sound dramatic.

Until Linda and Leroy book a 14-night cruise for two people.

That “little” increase becomes:

$5 × 14 days × 2 people = $140 more.

Suddenly five dollars brought several friends. 😂

Royal Caribbean Is Changing Its Cancellation Penalties

Princess is not the only cruise line changing the fine print.

Royal Caribbean is updating its cancellation penalty schedule beginning October 11.

The cruise line says the goal is to simplify the policy.

Cruises will now be grouped into:

  • 1–4 nights
  • 5–9 nights
  • 10 nights or longer

One of the biggest changes affects cruises of five nights or longer.

Royal Caribbean is eliminating the old 25% cancellation penalty tier.

That means some guests who cancel inside the penalty window could move directly to losing 50% of the cruise fare.

For a 5–9 night cruise, canceling 89–61 days before sailing could mean a 50% penalty.

For cruises 10 nights or longer, that 50% penalty may begin as early as 119 days before departure.

This is why we read cancellation policies before we click Book Now.

Because:

“I changed my mind.”

can quickly turn into:

“I changed my mind…and apparently donated half my cruise fare.” 😂

🏝️ MSC Breaks Ground on Sandy Cay in the Bahamas

MSC Group officially broke ground on September 28 for a new private-island destination in the Bahamas called Sandy Cay.

The new island will sit next to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve and is scheduled to open in 2028. But MSC says this will not simply be Ocean Cay 2.0.

Sandy Cay is being designed as a smaller, more intimate, elevated experience for guests sailing with MSC Cruises and its luxury sister brand, Explora Journeys.

Plans include:

  • five beaches
  • elevated dining
  • private retreats
  • wellness-focused areas
  • relaxation spaces
  • more personalized hospitality

In other words:

Ocean Cay said, “Come enjoy the beach.”

Sandy Cay said:

“Your cabana is ready.” 😂

MSC describes Sandy Cay as an intimate complement to Ocean Cay, not a replacement.

And MSC is not finished with Ocean Cay either.

The company is continuing upgrades there, including new restaurants, family and adults-only beach concepts, expanded relaxation areas, and additional marine conservation experiences.

So by 2028, MSC cruisers could have two very different private-island experiences sitting side by side.

Which island has somebody bringing drinks directly to my chair?

⚓ Carnival Mourns Captain Francesco “Cheecho” La Farina

The Carnival Cruise Line family is mourning the loss of longtime Captain Francesco “Cheecho” La Farina, who died on Saturday, September 26, following a long battle with cancer.

He was surrounded by family in his final hours.

Captain La Farina spent approximately 27 years with Carnival Cruise Line, serving as both staff captain and captain.

During his career, he commanded several Carnival ships, including Carnival Glory and Carnival Magic.

Since news of his passing became public, former crew members, colleagues, and cruisers have been sharing memories of him online.

What stands out in those tributes is not simply the ships he commanded or the ports he visited.

People have remembered his:

  • kindness
  • respect
  • humility
  • professionalism
  • steady leadership
  • genuine care for others

Carnival said he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the fleet through his professionalism, leadership, and kind nature.

Brightline’s parent-level companies are going through a Chapter 11 financial restructuring, but the operating company running the Miami-to-Orlando passenger service is not part of the filing.

Brightline says train service will continue operating normally.

The restructuring is aimed at strengthening the company’s finances and balance sheet.

According to the transcript, Brightline has identified roughly $4.4 billion in debt, while existing investors have committed about $490 million in new financing to support the restructuring and provide liquidity.

Brightline also says it intends to continue pursuing future growth plans, including:

  • a future station near Cocoa Beach
  • expanded commuter access in South Florida
  • continued exploration of extending service from Orlando toward Tampa

That matters to cruisers because Brightline has become a popular transportation option for travelers moving between:

  • Orlando
  • Miami
  • Fort Lauderdale
  • South Florida cruise ports

So if you already bought your Brightline ticket from Orlando to Miami:

No need to start walking down I-95. 😂

The train is still running.

Chapter 11 can sound alarming, but it does not automatically mean a company is shutting down. It can allow a business to restructure debt while continuing operations.

For now:

Keep your reservation.

Keep monitoring updates.

And please stay off the railroad tracks. 😂

✈️ Holiday Airfare May Be Getting Even More Expensive

Now let’s head from the train station to the airport.

If airfare already feels expensive, the transcript brings some rough news.

Airfares in August 2026 were about 23.4% higher than they were during the same period the previous year.

And one airline pricing consultant cited in the episode expects fares could stay near current levels or potentially rise another 10% by the end of the year.

Why?

Several factors are hitting at once.

1. Jet Fuel Is Expensive

As of September 22, jet fuel averaged around $4.52 per gallon, more than a dollar higher than in early August.

2. Some Airlines Are Cutting Capacity

Fewer seats plus strong demand can give airlines more pricing power.

3. Travelers Are Still Traveling

American, Southwest, and United were cited as reporting continued strong demand even as ticket prices increased.

Basically, the airlines looked at us paying these prices and said:

“Oh, so y’all ARE still buying tickets.” 😂

Now, that does not mean every route is going up another 10%.

Airfare is highly route-specific.

Some markets will still have sales.

Some routes have stronger competition.

And some holiday fares may dip during certain booking windows.

But if you are traveling for:

  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas
  • New Year’s
  • another peak holiday period

…this may not be the year to wait until the night before and hope something opens up.

Something might open up.

And if you see a fare you are comfortable paying?

Book it.

Many U.S. airlines no longer charge traditional change fees on standard tickets, depending on the fare type.

Waiting forever for the absolute lowest fare can sometimes cost you more than locking in a reasonable price.

Travel planning is not always about finding the cheapest airfare ever recorded in human history.

Sometimes it is about finding a price you can live with before Linda or Leroy grabs the last seat. 😂
