Royal Caribbean Cancels Beach Club Passes for a Private Charter

Imagine this.

You’re sailing to Nassau. You’ve visited before, so this time you decide to try something different.

You book a Royal Beach Club Paradise Island day pass.

You pay for it.

You already have the beach outfit planned.

You’re mentally holding a Coco Loco.

Then Royal Caribbean sends you a message that basically says:

“About that reservation…”

Guests scheduled to visit Nassau on January 23, 2027 are being told that their Royal Beach Club passes are being canceled because a charter sailing has reserved the entire beach club for the day.

There is no additional capacity.

The Good News: You Get a Refund

Royal Caribbean says affected guests will receive a full refund to their original payment method.

That helps.

But if the beach club was the main reason you were excited about Nassau?

Your plans just changed.

Three Royal Caribbean ships are scheduled to be in Nassau that day:

  • Allure of the Seas
  • Brilliance of the Seas
  • Utopia of the Seas

There are plenty of reasons.

The program is currently available at a limited number of airports.

We need to talk.

Beginning with published sailings in November 2026, Princess Cruises will start replacing calls at Princess Cay with visits to RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay on affected Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries.

Yes, you heard that correctly.

Princess Cruises is dropping a destination with Princess in the name.

Honey, that breakup is serious.

They’re taking the family name back.

Why Is Princess Making the Change?

According to the original episode, Princess Cruises confirmed the itinerary changes but had not publicly announced a specific reason for the switch.

Royal Caribbean’s New Chief Dog Officer Has a Name: Dolly

Royal Caribbean officially has a new executive.

And this one gets paid in treats.

The cruise line has announced the future Chief Dog Officer aboard Hero of the Seas, and her name is:

Dolly. 🐕✨

Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley announced the winning name after cruisers helped choose from a list of finalists.

Interestingly, Dolly was not originally among the choices.

According to the episode, after the passing of Dolly Parton, so many Royal Caribbean fans suggested the name that Bayley added it to the final vote.

And Dolly apparently ran away with it.

Norwegian didn’t build a kiddie pool, add two umbrellas, and call it a day.

This thing covers nearly six acres.

What’s Inside Great Tides Waterpark?

Carnival Breeze, meet the pier.

Pier, meet Carnival Breeze.

On Monday, Carnival Breeze made contact with the corner of the pier while maneuvering into its berth in Cozumel, Mexico.

Photos and videos shared online reportedly showed scraped paint and some exterior damage along the ship’s starboard hull.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

In fact, some guests reportedly said they barely felt the impact.

Maybe the Cheers package had already kicked in.

The Cruise Continued Normally

Carnival Breeze remained in Cozumel as scheduled and later departed on time.

The ship continued its five-night Western Caribbean cruise from Galveston without reported itinerary changes.

At the time of the episode, Carnival had not publicly confirmed the exact cause of the contact.

It could have involved wind.

Current.

The angle of approach.

Or maybe the pier jumped out and yelled:

“Tag, you’re it!”

Carnival Encounter Drops Cairns Because the Water Is Too Shallow

Now let’s head Down Under.

Passengers sailing aboard Carnival Encounter from Brisbane on September 5 received a last-minute itinerary change.

The ship had been scheduled to visit Cairns on September 8 during a six-night Great Barrier Reef cruise.

But Carnival told guests the current channel depth leading to the cruise terminal was too shallow for Carnival Encounter to enter safely.

And the issue was not expected to be resolved before the scheduled visit.

Here’s a quick one for cruisers who also like watching the stock market.

On September 1, Royal Caribbean Group announced that its board declared a quarterly dividend of $1.50 per common share.

According to the episode, the dividend is scheduled to be paid on October 8 to shareholders of record at the close of business on September 17.

Royal Caribbean Group now operates dozens of ships across:

  • Royal Caribbean International
  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Silversea

Now we are leaving the cruise terminal and heading to the airport.

JetBlue has apparently decided:

Enough fooling around. We want first class too.

JetBlue unveiled a new domestic first-class product called BlueFirst.

And no, this is not Mint.

Mint remains JetBlue’s premium lie-flat product on certain longer routes.

What BlueFirst Includes

According to the episode, BlueFirst seats will be arranged in a 2-by-2 configuration and include:

  • About seven additional inches of legroom
  • Up to five inches of recline

If the pricing makes sense, however, BlueFirst could become an interesting option for travelers who want more comfort without paying for a full Mint experience.

🌴 Travel Tip of the Day: Never Build Your Entire Vacation Around One Cruise Port

Today’s Carnival Encounter story gives us an important reminder:

Never build your entire vacation around one cruise port.

Cruise destinations can be canceled or changed because of:

  • Weather
  • Water depth
  • Port congestion
  • Mechanical issues
  • Local regulations

Carnival cruisers, tomorrow is a pretty big day.

On September 1, 2026, Carnival Cruise Line officially launches its new Carnival Rewards program, replacing the longtime VIFP loyalty program.

And the biggest change?

Your loyalty status will no longer depend primarily on how many days you have sailed.

Instead, guests will earn Stars toward status based on eligible spending with Carnival.

Translation:

Your sea days used to say:

“Look how loyal I am.”

Now your credit card may be saying:

“Move over. I got this.”

What Happens to Existing VIFP Status?

Existing VIFP members had through August 31 to opt into the new program so their loyalty history could transfer.

According to the episode, eligible guests will keep the status they have earned through today until December 2028, providing a transition period into the new system.

And longtime Diamond cruisers have some good news:

Diamond remains a lifetime status.

One of the most dangerous things about flash flooding is that the storm does not always have to be directly above you.

Places such as:

can experience dangerous flooding caused by storms happening miles away.

Before hiking, always:

  • Check National Park Service alerts
  • Review the latest weather forecast

A Cuban woman who now lives in Malta says she was prevented from returning to Cuba for five years after leaving her cruise ship job and remaining abroad.

According to the transcript, the woman creates social media content under the name Una Cubana en Malta.

She says she was not personally notified about the restriction. Instead, her mother reportedly went to an immigration office in Cuba, where officials provided documentation indicating that her daughter had been penalized for five years.

Greenland Asks Cruise Ships to Give Sensitive Fjords More Space

Now we are heading north.

Way north.

Greenland has a message for cruise lines:

“We like y’all…but maybe not all of y’all, all the time.”

Greenland’s government is asking cruise operators to avoid or reduce sailing through certain sensitive fjords.

Why?

Local communities have raised concerns about:

  • Underwater noise disturbing wildlife
  • Heavy vessel traffic in narrow waterways
  • Cruise activity interfering with traditional hunting areas
  • Fishing activity

This Is Not a Total Cruise Ban

Before the headline machine gets started, Greenland has not banned cruise ships from every fjord.

Norwegian Escape Arrives in New York City

New York cruisers, Norwegian Escape has pulled up to Manhattan.

The ship arrived at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal after completing a summer season from Port Canaveral.

Norwegian Escape kicked off its New York deployment with a 10-night Eastern Caribbean cruise, visiting destinations including:

  • San Juan
  • Puerto Plata
  • St. Thomas
  • Tortola
  • St. Maarten

After that, the ship is scheduled to spend much of September offering seven-night Canada and New England cruises.

Those itineraries include ports such as:

  • Halifax
  • Boston
  • Newport
  • Sydney
  • Portland

Then Norwegian Escape is expected to wrap up the season with a 16-night transatlantic sailing from Manhattan to Barcelona.

This ship needs two wardrobes.

Monday:

“Where are my flip-flops?”

Next week:

“Where is my sweater?”

Three weeks later:

“Hola, Barcelona!”

That is range.

More Cruise Options for the Northeast

Norwegian continues to maintain a strong presence in New York, giving Northeast cruisers more opportunities to board a ship without first flying to Florida.

Taxi.

Terminal.

Ship.

Royalton Negril Reopens After Hurricane Recovery

Now let’s head south to Jamaica for some encouraging news.

Royalton Negril officially reopened after months of recovery work following Hurricane Melissa.

The 573-room resort had been closed after sustaining damage in October 2025.

Following extensive restoration and renovation work, guests are returning.

But there is another number that matters just as much:

960 employees are back at work.

Resort Recovery Is Also Community Recovery

When we talk about a resort reopening after a hurricane, it is easy to focus on:

  • Pools
  • Restaurants
  • Beaches
  • Rooms
  • Bars
  • Activities

But tourism is also somebody’s:

Job. Mortgage. Grocery bill. Light bill. Medical bill. Family income.

According to the episode, roughly 80,000 tourism workers across Jamaica had returned to employment as the island continued its recovery.

Passengers aboard Carnival Conquest witnessed something you definitely won’t find listed in the daily program:

A real-life rescue at sea.

According to the episode, Carnival Conquest was sailing toward St. George’s, Grenada, when the ship received a distress relay involving a disabled sailing vessel.

The cruise ship changed course, reached the vessel, and safely brought the sole person aboard the sailboat onto Carnival Conquest.

Carnival said the rescued mariner remained in the care of the ship’s crew while the ship continued toward Grenada.

When someone is in trouble at sea, ships that can safely assist are expected to help.

Philadelphia’s New Cruise Terminal Is Officially Open

Philadelphia cruisers, your new terminal is ready.

The PhilaPort Cruise Terminal officially opened on August 7, following construction delays that pushed back its original spring opening.

Cruising returned to Philadelphia earlier this year after a roughly 15-year absence, with Norwegian Jewel operating week-long Bermuda itineraries.

Before the terminal was completed, passengers temporarily checked in at an airport-area hotel.

Now?

Guests can head straight to the new cruise facility.

Norwegian Pearl Will Take Over Later This Year

Norwegian Jewel is expected to finish its Philadelphia season in October.

Then Norwegian Pearl is scheduled to take over beginning in November with year-round itineraries that may include:

  • Bermuda
  • The Caribbean
  • Canada
  • New England

For travelers in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, this creates another option that may eliminate the need to fly to Florida just to board a cruise.

Philadelphia basically said:

“Why fly south when you can cruise from here?”

Galveston Could Be Getting a Fifth Cruise Terminal

Apparently, four cruise terminals are not enough for Texas.

The Galveston Wharves are negotiating with Royal Caribbean Group about developing a possible fifth cruise terminal at Pier 14.

The port board discussed preliminary terms on August 25, but delayed action on a non-binding agreement so both sides could continue working through financing, construction, and operational details.

Royal Caribbean already partnered with Galveston on the $125 million Pier 10 terminal, which opened in 2022.

And with Icon of the Seas scheduled to begin sailing from Galveston in August 2027, cruise growth in Texas is clearly not slowing down.

Potential Economic Impact

According to the episode, an economic study estimates a fifth terminal could create roughly 1,500 additional jobs.

Federal authorities arrested 11 cruise ship crew members in Boston during an operation conducted from August 14 through August 16.

According to the transcript, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations boarded two ships:

  • Holland America Line’s Volendam
  • Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Breakaway

Authorities said the operation targeted individuals allegedly involved with the receipt, possession, or distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

The enforcement action was part of a federal initiative called Operation Tidal Wave.

We end today’s news with a heartbreaking story from Nepal.

According to the episode, a catastrophic flash flood struck parts of the Himalayan country on Wednesday, August 26.

Early reports cited in the transcript said at least 273 people had been killed and more than 1,300 people were missing, including pilgrims and foreign visitors.

Carnival Is Testing Later Hours at Guy’s Burger Joint

Carnival cruisers have been asking one of vacation’s most important questions:

Why can’t I get a Guy’s Burger later?

Well, Carnival may finally be answering those late-night burger prayers.

The cruise line is testing extended evening operating hours for Guy’s Burger Joint aboard Carnival Conquest.

According to the episode, Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald confirmed the experiment on August 25.

Carnival selected Conquest in part because the ship runs shorter cruises, when passengers may want additional casual dinner options.

And apparently, cruisers approve.

Carnival says the response from guests has been strong enough that the company is considering introducing later Guy’s Burger Joint hours aboard additional ships.

Remembering Dolly Parton and Her Tourism Legacy

In 1986, Dolly became involved with the attraction that would become Dollywood, helping transform the Pigeon Forge area into one of America’s most recognizable family-tourism destinations.

Never make a major travel decision based solely on a scary headline.

When you see:

“Security Alert Issued for Mexico”

Click through and determine exactly what the advisory says.

Ask:

  • Is the warning for one city?
  • One state?
  • One region?
  • A border area?
  • Or the entire country?

Then check official government guidance, including the U.S. State Department travel advisory for your specific destination.

International travelers may also want to consider enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).

An informed traveler is better equipped to make smart decisions.

And there is a major difference between:

“There is a security alert in Mexicali.”

and:

“Cancel Margarita Monday in Cozumel.”

Those are not the same thing.

Mickey finally handed over the map.

After teasing mysterious geographic coordinates on social media, Disney Cruise Line officially announced its Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 itineraries on August 25, 2026.

And the big headline?

Disney Wish is heading to New York City.

Starting in late September 2027, Disney Wish is scheduled to operate seven special cruises from New York, ranging from four to seven nights.

Some itineraries will visit Bermuda, while others will head north toward Canada and New England.

Just imagine Disney Wish sailing past the Statue of Liberty.

Disney also announced:

Norwegian Aqua Is Going Short With Three- and Four-Night Cruises

For the cruisers who say:

“I want to cruise, but I don’t have seven days.”

Norwegian Cruise Line heard you.

Beginning April 28, 2028, Norwegian Aqua is scheduled to begin sailing three- and four-night Bahamas cruises from PortMiami.

We are talking:

Long-weekend Cruise Therapy.

Three-night cruises are expected to depart on Fridays, while four-night sailings are expected to leave on Mondays.

Each itinerary is scheduled to include:

  • Nassau
  • Great Stirrup Cay

Norwegian Aqua is expected to offer more than 50 short cruises between late April and late October 2028.

That makes it easier to squeeze in a cruise between work schedules, school calendars, or one of those weeks when you suddenly realize:

I need to get on a ship before somebody gets on my nerves.

Carnival Cruise Director Robby Howell Announces Retirement

Now for a bittersweet Carnival update.

Popular Carnival Cruise Director Robby Howell announced that he is retiring from ship life after approximately 10 years at sea.

Howell said the decision was entirely his and that he is looking forward to starting a new chapter on land with his wife.

But he isn’t gone just yet.

His final cruise aboard Carnival Venezia is scheduled to leave Port Canaveral on November 1, with his Carnival career concluding when that voyage ends on November 8.

He is calling the remaining stretch:

“Robby’s Retirement Run.”

And I love that.

After spending a decade getting thousands of people to dance, laugh, sing, and participate in activities, Robby finally gets to wake up without having to say:

“GOOD MORNING, CARNIVAL FAMILY!”

Congratulations, Robby.

Somewhere, his alarm clock is already celebrating.

Passenger Dies After Fall Aboard Norwegian Getaway

We need to shift gears for the next story.

A male passenger aboard Norwegian Getaway died after falling from a balcony onto a lower deck late Sunday night, August 23.

The ship was on the final night of a three-night Bahamas cruise from Miami after visiting Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay.

Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed that the guest fell from a balcony to a lower deck.

Crew members immediately responded and attempted lifesaving measures, but sadly, the passenger did not survive.

His identity had not been publicly released at the time of the incident.

Most importantly, authorities had not determined the cause of the fall.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office was investigating the incident as an unclassified death investigation.

There is no need for speculation here.

Behind every headline is a family receiving news that changes their lives forever.

Our thoughts are with the passenger’s family, friends, fellow travelers, and the crew members who responded.

Puerto Rico Faces Historic Drought and Water Rationing

Now let’s head ashore to Puerto Rico.

If you have an upcoming Puerto Rico vacation, cruise pre-stay, post-cruise hotel stay, or San Juan getaway, this is one update worth paying attention to.

Puerto Rico is facing a severe, historic drought.

According to the episode, San Juan had its driest July in 120 years, while nearly a quarter of Puerto Rico faced severe drought conditions.

Because of the water shortage, some areas began a 48-hours-on, 48-hours-off water rationing schedule on August 7.

That means water service alternates every two days in affected municipalities.

Should Travelers Cancel?

Not necessarily.

  • Avoiding unnecessary water use
  • Contacting your hotel before arrival

And yes…

This may finally be the vacation where that little bathroom sign saying:

“Help us save the planet—reuse your towel”

isn’t just the hotel trying to avoid doing laundry.

This time?

They really mean it.

Contact Your Hotel Before Traveling

Before leaving home, ask:

  • Is water service normal?
  • Are pools operating?
  • Are hotel restaurants open?
  • Are excursions running?
  • Are any services limited?
  • Is the property affected by rationing?

Five minutes on the phone could save you a lot of surprises after arrival.

Because the only hotel surprise I want is:

“Ms. Freeman, you’ve been upgraded to the Presidential Suite.”

That surprise?

🌴 Travel Tip of the Day: Call the Hotel, Not Just the Airline

When a destination is experiencing a drought, storm, wildfire, flooding, or other local disruption, do not rely only on your airline or cruise line for information.

Your flight may be operating normally.

Your cruise may still be sailing.

But conditions at your hotel or destination may be very different.

Before departure, contact the property and ask:

  • Is water service normal?
  • Are restaurants operating?
  • Are pools open?
  • Are excursions running?
  • Are any areas closed?
  • Should I prepare differently?

Also review:

  • Your travel insurance
  • Hotel cancellation policies
  • Transportation arrangements
  • Excursion policies
  • Local emergency notices

A quick phone call before departure can prevent a vacation from starting with:

“Wait…nobody told me THAT.”

After spending last week doing a little “field research” aboard MSC Seashore—and by field research, I mean cruising, eating, drinking, exploring, and taking a much-needed dose of my own Cruise Therapy—I came home to find out that apparently y’all had been cutting UP while I was gone.

We have a lot to catch up on.

Today’s cruise and travel headlines include Carnival Valor suddenly listing on the Mississippi River, Carnival changing Elegant Night on some shorter cruises, a temporary closure at Disney Castaway Cay, a frightening mistaken-identity arrest involving a cruise passenger in Sicily, and a major court ruling involving Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico.

So grab your boarding pass, secure your valuables, grab your drink from the bar—and after our first story, maybe secure the pool water too.

Carnival Valor Suddenly Lists on the Mississippi River

During the early morning hours of Monday, August 17, while the ship was transiting the Mississippi River toward New Orleans, Carnival Valor suddenly listed—or leaned—to one side.

The movement was reportedly strong enough to send water surging out of an onboard swimming pool and across portions of the deck.

Talk about the pool being OUT for summer.

Carnival confirmed that the ship experienced a brief listing event and said crew members responded immediately.

A few passengers requested medical assistance, but according to the information discussed in the original episode, no injuries or ship damage were reported, and Carnival Valor continued operating normally.

What Caused the Ship to Lean?

Some passengers reportedly speculated that the ship made a hard maneuver involving another vessel on the river.

However, Carnival had not publicly confirmed that explanation at the time.

Carnival said it was reviewing the circumstances.

So we are not turning the Boarding Call into:

CSI: Lido Deck Edition.

What we do know is:

  • The ship briefly leaned.
  • Pool water surged across the deck.

Carnival Is Changing Elegant Night on Some Shorter Cruises

Speaking of Carnival, let’s talk about what you’re packing.

Carnival has updated its guidance regarding Cruise Elegant evenings on some shorter sailings.

According to the transcript, select cruises of five days or fewer may have one Cruise Elegant evening, while some shorter sailings without an Elegant Night may instead feature a White Hot Night.

Cruises of six nights or longer are expected to continue having two Cruise Elegant evenings.

So…Do You Pack the Sequins or Not?

Somebody is standing in their closet right now holding a sequined gown, asking:

“Do I pack this or not?”

The answer?

Check your specific sailing.

The change isn’t necessarily applied the same way across every three-, four-, and five-night cruise.

Personally?

I don’t care whether Carnival calls it:

  • Elegant Night
  • White Hot Night
  • Tuesday
  • “Everybody Get Dressed Up Because We Said So” Night

If I bought the outfit, you’re going to see it.

I did not pay for sequins just to let them sit in cabin 8246.

Pelican Plunge Temporarily Closed at Disney Castaway Cay

Disney cruisers, especially those traveling with children, should know about a temporary closure at Disney Castaway Cay in the Bahamas.

Pelican Plunge, the popular floating water-play attraction, is temporarily closed for refurbishment.

The attraction features two waterslides that send guests splashing directly into the beautiful Bahamian water.

As of August 24, Disney had not announced a firm reopening date in the material discussed during the episode.

So if little Timmy has spent six months studying Pelican Plunge videos on YouTube…

It may be time to start managing expectations.

There’s Still Plenty to Do at Castaway Cay

The good news is that Castaway Cay offers plenty of other ways to spend the day, including:

  • Beaches
  • Snorkeling
  • Bike rentals
  • Water activities
  • Food and refreshments
  • Relaxing in the sun

And, of course, my personal favorite vacation attraction:

Cruise Passenger Says He Was Arrested in Sicily Because Authorities Had the Wrong Man

This next story is much more serious.

A French cruise passenger is seeking compensation after what he says was a frightening case of mistaken identity while on vacation with his family.

According to reports referenced in the transcript, the passenger was identified as Amir, a 44-year-old man from Toulouse, France.

He boarded a Mediterranean cruise on March 1, 2026, with his wife, three children, and extended family for a birthday celebration.

Four days later, on March 5 in Palermo, Sicily, Italian authorities arrested him.

Authorities Allegedly Mistook Him for Another Man

Authorities reportedly believed he was another French-Tunisian man wanted under a European arrest warrant in connection with drug-trafficking allegations.

According to the reports discussed in the episode, the two men allegedly shared:

  • The same first name
  • The same last name
  • The same date of birth

Amir reportedly tried to explain that authorities had the wrong person and presented identification, but he was still taken into custody.

After approximately seven hours, fingerprint checks reportedly confirmed that he was not the wanted man.

He was released and returned to his family aboard the ship.

He Is Now Seeking Compensation

Amir and his attorney are reportedly seeking compensation from Costa Cruises, arguing that the matter should have been resolved before he was arrested.

Costa reportedly maintains that the cruise line bears no responsibility because crew members were complying with instructions from Italian authorities.

There is nothing funny about this situation.
