Carnival Rewards Officially Begins September 1
Carnival cruisers, tomorrow is a pretty big day.
On September 1, 2026, Carnival Cruise Line officially launches its new Carnival Rewards program, replacing the longtime VIFP loyalty program.
And the biggest change?
Your loyalty status will no longer depend primarily on how many days you have sailed.
Instead, guests will earn Stars toward status based on eligible spending with Carnival.
Translation:
Your sea days used to say:
“Look how loyal I am.”
Now your credit card may be saying:
“Move over. I got this.”
What Happens to Existing VIFP Status?
Existing VIFP members had through August 31 to opt into the new program so their loyalty history could transfer.
According to the episode, eligible guests will keep the status they have earned through today until December 2028, providing a transition period into the new system.
And longtime Diamond cruisers have some good news:
Diamond remains a lifetime status.
Thank goodness.
Because if you have sailed enough with Carnival to reach Diamond, you have earned the right to stop taking loyalty-program exams.
Stars, Points and New Rewards
Under Carnival Rewards, guests will earn:
- Stars toward loyalty status
- Points that can be redeemed toward eligible purchases
Those points may be used toward things such as:
- Cruise fares
- Deposits
- Shore excursions
- Spa treatments
- Drinks
- Specialty dining
- Onboard purchases
Some traditional VIFP benefits are also changing or disappearing, so Platinum and Diamond cruisers should review the new benefits carefully.

Carnival Loyalty 2.0.
And you already know those Facebook groups are going to be busy.
Royal Caribbean Removed One Word From Perfect Day CocoCay
Everybody, remain calm.
Royal Caribbean did not sell CocoCay.
They did not move CocoCay.
They did not remove the pool.
They removed:
“at.”
Yes.
The destination formerly known as:
Perfect Day at CocoCay
is now officially:
Perfect Day CocoCay.
That’s it.
The word “at” has left the chat.
Royal Caribbean confirmed the branding change on August 27, and the updated name is already appearing across its website, marketing materials, and reservations.
Somewhere, that little preposition is sitting at the bar saying:
“After everything I did for that island…”
Has Anything Actually Changed on the Island?
No major guest-experience changes were identified in the episode.
You can still enjoy:
- Beaches
- Pools
- Waterpark attractions
- Food
- Drinks
- Private-island activities
You just cannot get the preposition anymore.
Budget cuts are getting serious.
The change appears to bring the destination’s branding more in line with Royal Caribbean’s growing collection of private destinations.
But longtime Royal Caribbean cruisers?
Be honest.

Norwegian Expands Free at Sea Specialty Dining for Larger Groups
Norwegian Cruise Line has made a change that families and larger groups may actually appreciate.
For eligible new bookings made on or after August 26, Norwegian has expanded part of its Free at Sea specialty-dining benefit.
The specialty-dining option can now extend to guests 3 through 8 in the same stateroom.
Previously, the benefit primarily focused on the first two guests.
And if you have ever traveled with a larger family, you already know how that conversation could go.
Guest one:
“My dinner is included.”
Guest two:
“Mine too.”
Guest three:
“What about me?”
Norwegian:
“…So about that.”
Now, more guests sharing the same cabin may be able to participate.
Families Should Still Read the Details
There are additional rules involving children ages 2 through 12, depending on whether they order from a complimentary children’s menu or the regular specialty restaurant menu.
So before assuming everyone is covered, review the specific terms attached to your reservation.
Still, for larger families and groups, this could make specialty dining easier—and potentially more affordable.
Because nothing ruins family dinner faster than discovering Grandma’s filet mignon costs extra.
Deadly Flash Flood Hits Grand Canyon, National Park
We need to shift gears for the next story.
A significant flash flood struck portions of Grand Canyon National Park over the weekend.
According to the episode, flooding affected areas around:
- Bright Angel Canyon
- Phantom Ranch
- North Kaibab Trail
As of August 31, the transcript reported that one person had died and 15 people remained unaccounted for.
More than 60 people were evacuated Sunday morning.
Our thoughts are with the family of the person who died, those waiting for news about missing loved ones, and the rescue teams working through extremely difficult conditions.
Major Water-System Damage Forces Lodging Closures
The flooding also caused extensive damage to the park’s primary water line.
Because of that damage, overnight lodging on the South Rim was closing beginning August 31 for the foreseeable future.
The transcript specifically referenced:
- El Tovar
- Bright Angel Lodge
- Maswik Lodge
- Yavapai Lodge
Phantom Ranch and the North Kaibab Trail were also closed until further notice.
Additional rain was forecast, meaning the risk of more flash flooding remained.
The Grand Canyon is breathtaking.
But desert terrain can become dangerous extremely quickly when heavy rain hits.
🌧️ Travel Tip of the Day: Clear Skies Do Not Mean No Flash-Flood Risk
One of the most dangerous things about flash flooding is that the storm does not always have to be directly above you.
Places such as:
- The Grand Canyon
- Desert parks
- Slot canyons
- Dry washes
- Narrow gorges
can experience dangerous flooding caused by storms happening miles away.
Before hiking, always:
- Check National Park Service alerts
- Review the latest weather forecast
- Ask rangers about trail conditions
- Learn where flash-flood risks are highest
- Follow closure orders immediately
And if officials say:
“Turn around.”
Turn around.
The canyon will still be there next year.
Your Instagram picture is not worth gambling with floodwater.
Nature does not care that you already paid for the tour.
Could Nashville International Airport Be Renamed for Dolly Parton?
And finally, we are heading to Tennessee.
According to the episode, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority are considering a proposal to rename Nashville International Airport in Dolly Parton’s honor.
The proposal followed the report of Parton’s death the previous week at age 80.
Governor Lee said Dolly’s life and legacy were deeply connected to Tennessee’s identity, making the airport—a major gateway for travelers arriving from around the world—a fitting place to honor her.
The airport authority is expected to formally consider the proposal during its September 17 meeting.
One Policy Could Complicate the Idea
The airport authority reportedly has a normal naming policy requiring a two-year waiting period after someone’s death before naming a facility in that person’s honor.
That policy could therefore need to be reconsidered or waived.
But if Nashville does this?
I need them to commit.
I don’t want just:
Dolly Parton International Airport.
No.
I need:
✨ Rhinestones at TSA
🎶 Moving walkways playing Dolly classics
🛫 Gate # 9 to 5
🧳 And if my luggage disappears, someone better get on the PA system and call for Jolene.
Now that is airport branding.
