Cruise News Roundup: Carnival Tests Later Guy’s Burgers, Margaritaville Heads to Galveston, Airlines Return to Tel Aviv, Mexicali Alert & Remembering Dolly Parton

Cruise and travel news is serving up a full plate today—from Carnival testing later hours at Guy’s Burger Joint and Margaritaville at Sea heading to Galveston to major U.S. airlines restoring service to Tel Aviv and an important security alert involving Mexicali, Mexico.

And today’s Boarding Call ends on a more reflective note as we remember the hospitality and tourism legacy of Dolly Parton, as reported in the original episode.

So grab your boarding pass, your favorite drink from the bar, and apparently leave room for one more burger.

It’s time for Your Daily Boarding Call.

This article is adapted from the original Cruise Therapy Podcast transcript for Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Carnival Is Testing Later Hours at Guy’s Burger Joint

Carnival cruisers have been asking one of vacation’s most important questions:

Why can’t I get a Guy’s Burger later?

Well, Carnival may finally be answering those late-night burger prayers.

The cruise line is testing extended evening operating hours for Guy’s Burger Joint aboard Carnival Conquest.

According to the episode, Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald confirmed the experiment on August 25.

Carnival selected Conquest in part because the ship runs shorter cruises, when passengers may want additional casual dinner options.

And apparently, cruisers approve.

Carnival says the response from guests has been strong enough that the company is considering introducing later Guy’s Burger Joint hours aboard additional ships.

This Is Research I Can Support

Forget clinical trials.

I volunteer for burger trials.

Put me in the control group.

Put me in the test group.

Give me the Plain Jane and some fries, and I will sacrifice myself for science.

The extended operating hours are not intended to replace the main dining room. They simply provide another casual option for guests who may not want a full sit-down meal.

And after spending eight hours on an excursion?

Sometimes you don’t want linen napkins and three courses.

Sometimes you want:

Burger. Fries. Beer. Bed.

In that order.

Now that is Cruise Therapy.

Margaritaville at Sea Is Coming to Galveston

Texas cruisers, break out the flip-flops.

Margaritaville at Sea is officially heading to Galveston.

According to the episode, the Galveston Wharves Board unanimously approved an agreement on August 25 to bring weekly Margaritaville at Sea cruises to Texas beginning in October 2027.

That would make Margaritaville at Sea the seventh cruise line serving the Port of Galveston.

Can I get a big:

YEEHAW!

Which Ship Is Coming?

That part is still a mystery.

At the time of the episode, Margaritaville at Sea had not announced:

  • Which ship will sail from Galveston
  • The destinations
  • Cruise lengths
  • Detailed itineraries

Those details are expected during a special announcement in September.

But Texas cruisers already know one important thing:

They are getting another cruise option without necessarily having to fly to Florida.

Somebody just looked at airfare to Miami and said:

Delete. Delete. Delete.

Texas is about to go from:

“Howdy, y’all!”

to:

“It’s five o’clock somewhere, y’all!”

Major U.S. Airlines Are Restoring Flights to Tel Aviv

Now let’s leave the cruise terminal and head to the airport.

Major U.S. airlines are gradually restoring service to Tel Aviv, Israel, following months of disruptions tied to conflict and security concerns in the region.

According to the episode:

Delta Air Lines plans to resume daily service between New York-JFK and Tel Aviv on September 6.

United Airlines plans to restore twice-daily service to Tel Aviv beginning September 8.

American Airlines is taking a slower approach, with its return currently targeted for March 2027.

Travelers Should Continue Monitoring Schedules

These dates are important—but they are not carved in stone.

Airlines continuously evaluate:

  • Regional security conditions
  • Airspace restrictions
  • Government guidance
  • Operational considerations
  • Passenger and crew safety

Schedules can change quickly.

If you are traveling to Israel or connecting through the region, check your airline’s latest schedule before heading to the airport.

International flight schedules can change faster than cruise passengers when somebody announces free drinks.

U.S. Issues Security Alert for Mexicali, Mexico

Now for an important travel-security story—and geography matters here.

The U.S. Embassy issued a security alert involving Mexicali, the capital of Baja California, directly across the border from Calexico, California.

According to the episode, the U.S. government suspended official travel and government activities in Mexicali on Tuesday because officials described a threat.

The source material did not disclose the specific nature of that threat.

Americans already in Mexicali were advised to:

  • Monitor local media
  • Remain aware of their surroundings
  • Follow official instructions
  • Avoid U.S. government facilities

This Alert Is for Mexicali—Not All of Mexico

This part is extremely important.

A security alert for Mexicali does not automatically mean travelers should cancel trips to:

  • Cozumel
  • Costa Maya
  • Cancún
  • Puerto Vallarta
  • Cabo San Lucas
  • Every Mexican cruise port
  • Every Mexican resort destination

Mexico is a large country.

We cannot treat travel alerts like somebody spilled red wine across a map and said:

“Cancel everything inside the stain.”

Read the actual alert.

Know the location.

Understand whether it applies to your destination.

Then make an informed decision.

A U.S. security alert involving Mexicali should not be confused with a blanket warning covering every destination in Mexico. (AI-Generated Image)

Remembering Dolly Parton and Her Tourism Legacy

Beyond music, Dolly Parton helped shape tourism and hospitality throughout Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains. (Photo Credit: Dollywood)

We’re ending today’s Boarding Call differently.

The original episode reported the death of Dolly Parton at age 80 in Nashville following a brief battle with cancer.

For generations of fans, Dolly’s name has been connected to music, humor, rhinestones, generosity, and songs that somehow manage to make you smile and cry at the same time.

But because this is Cruise Therapy, there is another part of her legacy worth remembering:

Travel and hospitality.

Dolly’s SongTeller’s Hotel (Photo Credit: People Magazine)

Dollywood Changed Tourism in East Tennessee

In 1986, Dolly became involved with the attraction that would become Dollywood, helping transform the Pigeon Forge area into one of America’s most recognizable family-tourism destinations.

Over time, the tourism footprint expanded to include:

  • Dollywood
  • Dollywood’s Splash Country
  • Resorts
  • Restaurants
  • Live entertainment
  • Attractions
  • Thousands of tourism-related jobs throughout the Smoky Mountains

But what made Dolly’s approach to hospitality special went beyond buildings and attractions.

She understood one of the most important lessons in travel:

People remember how a place makes them feel.

Welcome.

Happy.

Connected.

More recently, the transcript also referenced expansion into additional hospitality ventures, including Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stops and Nashville’s SongTeller Hotel.

Maybe even a little more hopeful than when they arrived.

The episode noted that Dollywood planned to remain open in keeping with Dolly’s wishes, allowing visitors to remember her through music, laughter, joy, and shared experiences.

That feels appropriate.

Not turning the music off.

Turning it up.

From all of us at Cruise Therapy:

Dolly, thank you for the music, laughter, generosity, hospitality, and memories.

We will always love you. ❤️

🌎 Travel Tip of the Day: Read Beyond the Scary Headline

Today’s Mexicali story gives us an important reminder:

Never make a major travel decision based solely on a scary headline.

When you see:

“Security Alert Issued for Mexico”

Click through and determine exactly what the advisory says.

Ask:

  • Is the warning for one city?
  • One state?
  • One region?
  • A border area?
  • Or the entire country?

Then check official government guidance, including the U.S. State Department travel advisory for your specific destination.

International travelers may also want to consider enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).

An informed traveler is better equipped to make smart decisions.

And there is a major difference between:

“There is a security alert in Mexicali.”

and:

“Cancel Margarita Monday in Cozumel.”

Those are not the same thing.

Cruise News Roundup: Disney Wish Heads to New York, Norwegian Aqua Goes Short, Puerto Rico Faces Historic Drought & More

Cruise and travel news is bringing us a little bit of everything today—from exciting new Disney Cruise Line itineraries and quick Norwegian getaways to a major Carnival retirement announcement, a heartbreaking incident aboard Norwegian Getaway, and an important Puerto Rico travel update.

So grab your boarding pass, secure your valuables, and pick up your favorite drink from the bar.

It’s time for another Your Daily Boarding Call.

Disney Wish Is Heading to New York City

Mickey finally handed over the map.

After teasing mysterious geographic coordinates on social media, Disney Cruise Line officially announced its Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 itineraries on August 25, 2026.

And the big headline?

Disney Wish is heading to New York City.

Starting in late September 2027, Disney Wish is scheduled to operate seven special cruises from New York, ranging from four to seven nights.

Some itineraries will visit Bermuda, while others will head north toward Canada and New England.

Just imagine Disney Wish sailing past the Statue of Liberty.

Cue:

“Start spreading the news…”

Don’t worry. I’m not singing.

Maybe at karaoke night.

Disney Also Announced More Deployment News

Disney also announced:

  • A new Panama Canal crossing aboard Disney Magic
  • Additional cruises from San Juan
  • New deployment options throughout the fleet
  • Early booking beginning August 31 for select Castaway Club members
  • General reservations opening September 8

So if you’ve been waiting for Disney Cruise Line to return to New York…

Your Wish has come true. Literally.

Norwegian Aqua Is Going Short With Three- and Four-Night Cruises

For the cruisers who say:

“I want to cruise, but I don’t have seven days.”

Norwegian Cruise Line heard you.

Beginning April 28, 2028, Norwegian Aqua is scheduled to begin sailing three- and four-night Bahamas cruises from PortMiami.

We are talking:

Long-weekend Cruise Therapy.

Three-night cruises are expected to depart on Fridays, while four-night sailings are expected to leave on Mondays.

Great Stirrup Cay (Photo Credit: Norwegian Cruise Line)

Each itinerary is scheduled to include:

  • Nassau
  • Great Stirrup Cay

Norwegian Aqua is expected to offer more than 50 short cruises between late April and late October 2028.

That makes it easier to squeeze in a cruise between work schedules, school calendars, or one of those weeks when you suddenly realize:

I need to get on a ship before somebody gets on my nerves.

And now, when somebody asks:

“Didn’t you just get back from a cruise?”

You can respond:

“That was last weekend. Three nights. That wasn’t a vacation. That was maritime self-care.”

Carnival Cruise Director Robby Howell Announces Retirement

Now for a bittersweet Carnival update.

Popular Carnival Cruise Director Robby Howell announced that he is retiring from ship life after approximately 10 years at sea.

Howell said the decision was entirely his and that he is looking forward to starting a new chapter on land with his wife.

But he isn’t gone just yet.

His final cruise aboard Carnival Venezia is scheduled to leave Port Canaveral on November 1, with his Carnival career concluding when that voyage ends on November 8.

He is calling the remaining stretch:

“Robby’s Retirement Run.”

And I love that.

After spending a decade getting thousands of people to dance, laugh, sing, and participate in activities, Robby finally gets to wake up without having to say:

“GOOD MORNING, CARNIVAL FAMILY!”

Congratulations, Robby.

Somewhere, his alarm clock is already celebrating.

Passenger Dies After Fall Aboard Norwegian Getaway

We need to shift gears for the next story.

A male passenger aboard Norwegian Getaway died after falling from a balcony onto a lower deck late Sunday night, August 23.

The ship was on the final night of a three-night Bahamas cruise from Miami after visiting Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay.

Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed that the guest fell from a balcony to a lower deck.

Crew members immediately responded and attempted lifesaving measures, but sadly, the passenger did not survive.

His identity had not been publicly released at the time of the incident.

Most importantly, authorities had not determined the cause of the fall.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office was investigating the incident as an unclassified death investigation.

There is no need for speculation here.

Behind every headline is a family receiving news that changes their lives forever.

Our thoughts are with the passenger’s family, friends, fellow travelers, and the crew members who responded.

Sometimes Cruise Therapy takes on a very different meaning.

Puerto Rico Faces Historic Drought and Water Rationing

Now let’s head ashore to Puerto Rico.

If you have an upcoming Puerto Rico vacation, cruise pre-stay, post-cruise hotel stay, or San Juan getaway, this is one update worth paying attention to.

Puerto Rico is facing a severe, historic drought.

According to the episode, San Juan had its driest July in 120 years, while nearly a quarter of Puerto Rico faced severe drought conditions.

Because of the water shortage, some areas began a 48-hours-on, 48-hours-off water rationing schedule on August 7.

That means water service alternates every two days in affected municipalities.

Travelers to Puerto Rico are being encouraged to conserve water and check conditions with their hotel before arrival. (Photo Credit: Reuters)

Should Travelers Cancel?

Not necessarily.

Hotels remain open.

Visitors are still welcome.

Many hotels have contingency plans in place.

But travelers are being asked to conserve water.

That includes:

  • Taking shorter showers
  • Turning off faucets while brushing your teeth
  • Reusing towels when possible
  • Avoiding unnecessary water use
  • Contacting your hotel before arrival

And yes…

This may finally be the vacation where that little bathroom sign saying:

“Help us save the planet—reuse your towel”

isn’t just the hotel trying to avoid doing laundry.

This time?

They really mean it.

Contact Your Hotel Before Traveling

Before leaving home, ask:

  • Is water service normal?
  • Are pools operating?
  • Are hotel restaurants open?
  • Are excursions running?
  • Are any services limited?
  • Is the property affected by rationing?

Five minutes on the phone could save you a lot of surprises after arrival.

Because the only hotel surprise I want is:

“Ms. Freeman, you’ve been upgraded to the Presidential Suite.”

That surprise?

I accept.

🌴 Travel Tip of the Day: Call the Hotel, Not Just the Airline

When a destination is experiencing a drought, storm, wildfire, flooding, or other local disruption, do not rely only on your airline or cruise line for information.

Your flight may be operating normally.

Your cruise may still be sailing.

But conditions at your hotel or destination may be very different.

Before departure, contact the property and ask:

  • Is water service normal?
  • Are restaurants operating?
  • Are pools open?
  • Are excursions running?
  • Are any areas closed?
  • Should I prepare differently?

Also review:

  • Your travel insurance
  • Hotel cancellation policies
  • Transportation arrangements
  • Excursion policies
  • Local emergency notices

A quick phone call before departure can prevent a vacation from starting with:

“Wait…nobody told me THAT.”

Cruise News Roundup: Carnival Valor Tilts, Elegant Night Changes, Castaway Cay Closure, Mistaken Arrest & Delta-Aeromexico Court Win

Mates and addicts, I’m back!

After spending last week doing a little “field research” aboard MSC Seashore—and by field research, I mean cruising, eating, drinking, exploring, and taking a much-needed dose of my own Cruise Therapy—I came home to find out that apparently y’all had been cutting UP while I was gone.

We have a lot to catch up on.

Today’s cruise and travel headlines include Carnival Valor suddenly listing on the Mississippi River, Carnival changing Elegant Night on some shorter cruises, a temporary closure at Disney Castaway Cay, a frightening mistaken-identity arrest involving a cruise passenger in Sicily, and a major court ruling involving Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico.

So grab your boarding pass, secure your valuables, grab your drink from the bar—and after our first story, maybe secure the pool water too.

This article is adapted from the original Your Daily Boarding Call transcript for Monday, August 24, 2026.

Carnival Valor Suddenly Lists on the Mississippi River

A video circulating from Carnival Valor has cruisers talking.

During the early morning hours of Monday, August 17, while the ship was transiting the Mississippi River toward New Orleans, Carnival Valor suddenly listed—or leaned—to one side.

The movement was reportedly strong enough to send water surging out of an onboard swimming pool and across portions of the deck.

Talk about the pool being OUT for summer.

Carnival confirmed that the ship experienced a brief listing event and said crew members responded immediately.

A few passengers requested medical assistance, but according to the information discussed in the original episode, no injuries or ship damage were reported, and Carnival Valor continued operating normally.

What Caused the Ship to Lean?

Some passengers reportedly speculated that the ship made a hard maneuver involving another vessel on the river.

However, Carnival had not publicly confirmed that explanation at the time.

Carnival said it was reviewing the circumstances.

So we are not turning the Boarding Call into:

CSI: Lido Deck Edition.

What we do know is:

  • The ship briefly leaned.
  • Pool water surged across the deck.
  • Passengers understandably got a scare.
  • Crew members responded.
  • The ship continued sailing.

And this is why I always say that when you’re on a moving vessel, hold on to your margarita, your tequila shot—and if necessary, the handrail.

Priorities.

Carnival Is Changing Elegant Night on Some Shorter Cruises

Speaking of Carnival, let’s talk about what you’re packing.

Carnival has updated its guidance regarding Cruise Elegant evenings on some shorter sailings.

According to the transcript, select cruises of five days or fewer may have one Cruise Elegant evening, while some shorter sailings without an Elegant Night may instead feature a White Hot Night.

Cruises of six nights or longer are expected to continue having two Cruise Elegant evenings.

So…Do You Pack the Sequins or Not?

Somebody is standing in their closet right now holding a sequined gown, asking:

“Do I pack this or not?”

The answer?

Check your specific sailing.

The change isn’t necessarily applied the same way across every three-, four-, and five-night cruise.

Personally?

I don’t care whether Carnival calls it:

  • Elegant Night
  • White Hot Night
  • Tuesday
  • “Everybody Get Dressed Up Because We Said So” Night

If I bought the outfit, you’re going to see it.

I did not pay for sequins just to let them sit in cabin 8246.

Pelican Plunge Temporarily Closed at Disney Castaway Cay

Disney cruisers, especially those traveling with children, should know about a temporary closure at Disney Castaway Cay in the Bahamas.

Pelican Plunge, the popular floating water-play attraction, is temporarily closed for refurbishment.

The attraction features two waterslides that send guests splashing directly into the beautiful Bahamian water.

As of August 24, Disney had not announced a firm reopening date in the material discussed during the episode.

So if little Timmy has spent six months studying Pelican Plunge videos on YouTube…

It may be time to start managing expectations.

There’s Still Plenty to Do at Castaway Cay

The good news is that Castaway Cay offers plenty of other ways to spend the day, including:

  • Beaches
  • Snorkeling
  • Bike rentals
  • Water activities
  • Food and refreshments
  • Relaxing in the sun

And, of course, my personal favorite vacation attraction:

Sitting down.

Very underrated.

Cruise Passenger Says He Was Arrested in Sicily Because Authorities Had the Wrong Man

This next story is much more serious.

A French cruise passenger is seeking compensation after what he says was a frightening case of mistaken identity while on vacation with his family.

According to reports referenced in the transcript, the passenger was identified as Amir, a 44-year-old man from Toulouse, France.

He boarded a Mediterranean cruise on March 1, 2026, with his wife, three children, and extended family for a birthday celebration.

Four days later, on March 5 in Palermo, Sicily, Italian authorities arrested him.

Authorities Allegedly Mistook Him for Another Man

Authorities reportedly believed he was another French-Tunisian man wanted under a European arrest warrant in connection with drug-trafficking allegations.

According to the reports discussed in the episode, the two men allegedly shared:

  • The same first name
  • The same last name
  • The same date of birth

Amir reportedly tried to explain that authorities had the wrong person and presented identification, but he was still taken into custody.

After approximately seven hours, fingerprint checks reportedly confirmed that he was not the wanted man.

He was released and returned to his family aboard the ship.

He Is Now Seeking Compensation

Amir and his attorney are reportedly seeking compensation from Costa Cruises, arguing that the matter should have been resolved before he was arrested.

Costa reportedly maintains that the cruise line bears no responsibility because crew members were complying with instructions from Italian authorities.

There is nothing funny about this situation.

Imagine being on vacation with your spouse, children, family, and friends for a birthday celebration—and suddenly being led away by police for a crime you had nothing to do with.

Hopefully, the situation encourages stronger identity-verification procedures when passenger information appears to match law-enforcement records.

Sometimes the details really do matter.

Delta and Aeromexico Win Major Appeals Court Ruling

Now let’s leave the cruise terminal and taxi over to the airport.

Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico apparently looked at the government breakup papers and said:

“Not so fast.”

On Thursday, August 20, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta overturned a Department of Transportation order that would have forced Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico to dissolve their joint venture.

The partnership allows the two carriers to coordinate flights between the United States and Mexico.

Why Did the Government Want the Partnership Ended?

According to the episode, the Department of Transportation had argued that conditions at Mexico City’s main airport were harming competition.

However, the appeals court reportedly determined that the department had not sufficiently analyzed the broader U.S.-Mexico aviation market before ordering the partnership dissolved.

Translation?

The court basically said:

You cannot end the entire relationship based on one airport. We need to talk about the whole marriage.

Couples therapy is working.

Why This Matters to Travelers

Airline joint ventures can affect:

  • Flight schedules
  • Connections
  • Available routes
  • Frequent-flyer benefits
  • Codeshare options
  • Ticketing and itinerary flexibility

The DOT was reviewing the ruling and considering its options at the time of the episode.

So for now?

Delta and Aeromexico are still together.

🧳 Travel Tip of the Day: Check Your Travel Documents Before Leaving the Country

Today’s mistaken-identity story offers an important reminder for anyone traveling internationally.

Before leaving home, make sure the information on your reservation matches your passport exactly.

Check:

  • Full legal name
  • Date of birth
  • Passport number
  • Passport expiration date
  • Nationality
  • Airline reservation information
  • Cruise reservation information

One missing middle name or reversed surname may seem small until you’re standing at an international airport or cruise terminal trying to explain it.

Keep Copies of Your Important Documents

Travelers should also consider keeping:

  • A digital copy of the passport identification page
  • A paper photocopy
  • Copies of travel-insurance information
  • Emergency contact details
  • Cruise or tour confirmations

Store copies separately from the originals.

If an identification issue occurs overseas, documentation matters.

Take five minutes before your vacation to check everything.

Because discovering that your passport says G-Free and your airline ticket says GFree Cruise Therapy Extraordinaire while you’re standing at the airport?

That is not how we want to begin Cruise Therapy.

Cruise News Roundup: Hawaii Storm Changes, Carnival’s Forgotten Shoes & Flames From an American Airlines Engine

Cruise and travel news brought us a little bit of everything this week: severe weather changing Hawaiian cruise itineraries, Carnival giving forgotten shoes a second life, and a frightening bird strike that sent an American Airlines flight safely back to the airport after flames were seen coming from an engine.

In this edition of Your Daily Boarding Call, we’re unpacking the headlines without charging you an overweight baggage fee.

Although after today’s Carnival story, you may want to make sure your shoes actually made it into the suitcase.

So grab your coffee, grab your boarding pass, and apparently…count your shoes.

It’s time for the Boarding Call.

This article is adapted from the original Cruise Therapy Podcast transcript for Friday, August 14, 2026.

Tropical Storm Forces Norwegian Cruise Line to Change Two Hawaii Sailings

Mother Nature has rewritten another cruise itinerary.

According to the original episode, a tropical storm approaching Hawaii forced Norwegian Cruise Line to change two sailings involving two ships: Pride of America and Norwegian Spirit.

Pride of America Returns to Honolulu Early

Pride of America, which operates year-round Hawaiian cruises from Honolulu, headed back to Honolulu earlier than originally planned.

Norwegian Spirit Cancels Two Hawaiian Ports

Meanwhile, Norwegian Spirit canceled its final two Hawaii port calls and also headed toward Honolulu early.

The changes came as the storm was strengthening and threatening portions of Hawaii with potentially dangerous conditions, including:

  • Strong winds
  • Heavy rainfall
  • Flooding
  • Dangerous surf
  • Changing port conditions

Missing a port is disappointing, especially when you have been dreaming about that stop for months.

You may have booked an excursion.

You may have researched the perfect beach.

You may already know where your first Mai Tai is supposed to come from.

But this is exactly why cruise itineraries are never guaranteed.

The captain is not sitting on the bridge thinking:

“You know what would be fun today? Disappointing 3,000 people.”

When severe weather starts knocking on the door, the correct response is:

We’re going the other way.

And that is exactly what you want the people responsible for your safety to do.

Mother Nature does not accept reservations.

Severe weather can force cruise lines to adjust ports and schedules quickly in the interest of passenger and crew safety. (AI-Generated Image)

Carnival Has a New Plan for All Those Shoes Guests Leave Behind

Now, from storm trackers to sneaker trackers.

Carnival Cruise Line apparently has one question:

Why do y’all keep leaving your shoes on the ship?

Carnival has partnered with Sneaker Impact, an organization that collects used footwear for reuse and recycling.

Under the program, Sneaker Impact can collect unclaimed shoes left aboard Carnival ships and send them to its facility in Miami instead of simply discarding them.

Guests and crew members may also donate footwear.

And I actually love this idea.

Because somewhere, somebody gets home from their cruise, opens the suitcase, looks around the bedroom, and suddenly yells:

“WHERE ARE MY CROCS?!”

Baby…

Your Crocs may have moved on.

They found purpose.

They’re healing.

Let them go.

Turning Lost-and-Found Into Something Useful

Jokes aside, the partnership provides another potential destination for shoes that might otherwise end up in a landfill.

It also gives guests and crew an opportunity to intentionally donate footwear they no longer need.

So before you leave your cabin on debarkation morning:

  • Check the safe.
  • Check the bathroom.
  • Look under the bed.
  • Check the closet.
  • Check behind the curtains.
  • And please…

Check your feet.

Carnival is partnering with Sneaker Impact to give eligible unclaimed and donated footwear another life. (AI-Generated image)

American Airlines Flight Returns Safely After Bird Strike

Now let’s head from the cruise terminal to the airport.

This next story sounds frightening—and it was certainly dramatic—but the most important part is that everyone landed safely.

According to the episode, American Airlines Flight 1760 departed Myrtle Beach International Airport in South Carolina for Charlotte, North Carolina.

Shortly after takeoff, the Boeing 737-800 reportedly encountered birds.

Video captured by passengers and people on the ground showed bursts of flames coming from the aircraft’s left engine.

The pilots declared an emergency and returned to Myrtle Beach.

The Most Important Detail: The Plane Landed Safely

The aircraft landed safely, and no injuries were reported.

American Airlines then took the plane out of service for inspection, while passengers were moved to another aircraft to continue their journey to Charlotte.

Now imagine looking out the airplane window and seeing flames.

I do not care how calm the flight attendants look.

Internally, I am already holding a full emergency church service in seat 17A.

“Lord, remember when I said I was going to stop ordering shoes online? TODAY IS THE DAY!”

But incidents like this also demonstrate why pilots and cabin crews train repeatedly for emergencies.

The pilots:

  • Recognized the problem
  • Declared an emergency
  • Returned to the airport
  • Landed safely

That is the part of the story worth remembering.

🌴 Travel Tip of the Day: Severe Weather Can Rewrite Your Cruise

Today’s Hawaii story offers a travel lesson every cruiser should remember:

Do not rely solely on the itinerary you printed months before departure.

When severe weather threatens a cruise destination, plans can change quickly.

Ports may change.

Arrival and departure times may change.

Excursions may change.

Sometimes an entire itinerary may need adjustment.

Before and during your cruise, regularly check:

  • Your cruise line’s mobile app
  • Email notifications
  • Text alerts
  • Official cruise-line announcements
  • Communications from your travel advisor

Independent Excursions Require Extra Attention

If you booked an excursion independently rather than through the cruise line, understand the company’s cancellation and refund policy before you leave home.

Ask what happens if:

  • The cruise ship skips the port
  • Your arrival time changes
  • The ship arrives too late for the excursion
  • Severe weather cancels the activity
  • Your itinerary is completely rerouted

And always pack flexibility.

It does not weigh anything, so TSA cannot charge you for it.

⚓ Key Takeaways

  • Severe weather approaching Hawaii prompted itinerary changes involving Pride of America and Norwegian Spirit.
  • Pride of America returned toward Honolulu earlier than originally planned.
  • Norwegian Spirit canceled its final two Hawaiian port calls.
  • Cruise itineraries can change when weather or port conditions make the original schedule unsafe.
  • Carnival Cruise Line has partnered with Sneaker Impact.
  • Eligible unclaimed shoes left aboard Carnival ships may be collected for reuse or recycling instead of being discarded.
  • Guests and crew can also donate footwear.
  • American Airlines Flight 1760 encountered a reported bird strike after departing Myrtle Beach for Charlotte.
  • Video showed flames coming from an engine.
  • The pilots declared an emergency and safely returned to Myrtle Beach.
  • No injuries were reported.
  • The aircraft was removed from service for inspection.
  • Travelers should monitor official cruise-line communications whenever severe weather threatens an itinerary.
  • Review independent shore-excursion cancellation policies before departure.
  • Flexibility may be one of the most valuable things you pack.

Cruise News Roundup: FlowRider Wardrobe Malfunction, Cruise Duck Ban, River Cruise Disruptions, and Sandals Wedding News

Cruise and travel news includes a FlowRider mishap that proves the waves do not care about your dignity, a cruise line asking guests to leave the rubber ducks at home, low water levels disrupting European river cruises, and new destination-wedding offerings from Sandals Resorts in Jamaica.

In this edition of Your Daily Boarding Call, we’re unpacking the latest headlines without charging an overweight baggage fee—or asking why you packed seven pairs of shoes when we both know those cruise-ship flip-flops are about to work overtime.

This is a safe space. We don’t judge.

Grab your favorite libation, your passport, and your emotional-support luggage. Let’s get caught up.

FlowRider 1, Swim Trunks 0

Royal Caribbean’s FlowRider has apparently claimed another victim.

A guest is getting attention after his swim trunks decided they were finished participating while he was riding the ship’s surf simulator.

Instead of disappearing into the witness protection program, the cruiser reportedly laughed along with everyone else.

Now that is how you ride the wave.

A Very Important FlowRider Packing Tip

Before stepping onto a FlowRider, make sure your swimwear is secure.

That means:

  • Tight drawstrings
  • Secure waistbands
  • Properly fitted swim trunks
  • No loose accessories
  • Following all crew instructions

Because the ocean may be calling, but your bathing suit does not need to answer separately.

A recent FlowRider mishap is a good reminder to secure those swimsuit drawstrings before riding. (AI-Generated Image)

Cruise Ducks May Be Getting an Eviction Notice

Speaking of things disappearing on cruise ships, the game of hide-and-seek may be over for cruise ducks on another cruise line.

Marella Cruises is reportedly asking guests not to hide rubber ducks aboard its ships.

Cabin-door decorations are also reportedly being prohibited across the fleet.

For some cruisers, this is serious business.

The little decorated ducks have become their own cruise subculture. Travelers hide them, find them, photograph them, post them online, and sometimes send them sailing from ship to ship.

Some of those ducks have traveled more than I have.

Why Cruise Lines Can Restrict Decorations

Cruise lines can set their own onboard policies involving:

  • Cabin doors
  • Hallway decorations
  • Items left in public areas
  • Fire-safety considerations
  • Housekeeping access
  • Signage and passenger flow
  • Anything that could create clutter or confusion

So if Marella says no ducks, Donald and Daffy may have to stay home.

And somewhere, a cruise-duck Facebook group is absolutely calling an emergency meeting.

This meeting will now come to order.

Low water on the Rhine and Danube may lead to ship swaps, buses, hotel stays, or itinerary changes. (AI-Generated Image)

Low Water Levels Are Disrupting European River Cruises

Now for a much more serious travel update.

Exceptionally low water levels are continuing to affect portions of the Rhine and Danube rivers.

Travelers on some itineraries have reportedly experienced:

  • Ship swaps
  • Changed ports
  • Longer motor-coach transfers
  • Hotel stays
  • Modified sightseeing plans
  • Cancellations

River cruise lines including Viking, Uniworld, and others have been adapting their operations where possible.

So yes, your seven-day river cruise may occasionally turn into:

Cruise Europe: Now Featuring Our Complimentary Bus.

Not exactly the brochure photo, but sometimes flexibility becomes part of the itinerary.

Why Low Water Matters

River ships have limited clearance beneath the waterline.

When water levels drop too far, certain sections of a river may become too shallow for safe navigation.

Cruise lines may respond by:

  • Swapping passengers to another ship
  • Using motor coaches between destinations
  • Changing embarkation points
  • Moving guests into hotels temporarily
  • Skipping or replacing ports
  • Adjusting excursion schedules

What Travelers Should Do

If you are sailing the Rhine or Danube soon:

  • Check your email frequently
  • Monitor the cruise-line app
  • Stay in contact with your travel advisor
  • Avoid tightly timed independent transportation
  • Confirm any pre- or post-cruise arrangements
  • Review travel insurance coverage
  • Pack some flexibility along with the passport

River conditions can change quickly.

Sandals Expands Destination Wedding Options in Jamaica

After disappearing swim trunks, disappearing ducks, and disappearing river depth, somebody deserves a honeymoon.

According to the transcript, the three resorts are undergoing a combined $200 million refresh.

Planned Reopening Dates

Sandals South Coast is scheduled to reopen on November 18.

Sandals Montego Bay and the renamed Sandals Caribbean Cay are scheduled to reopen on December 18.

Wedding Offer for 2027

Couples booking qualifying five-night or longer Club or Butler stays for 2027 may be eligible for an upgraded Sweetheart Wedding Package for celebrations of up to 50 guests.

The package may include benefits such as:

  • Ceremony space
  • Wedding planning
  • Cake

  • Video credits

If you have been dropping hints and your significant other still has not proposed, you officially have permission to send them this blog post.

I do what I can.

River Cruise Changes Do Not Always Mean Cancellation

If you are taking a river cruise, do not assume an itinerary change means your vacation is over.

Low water—and sometimes high water—can force cruise lines to modify operations while preserving as much of the journey as possible.

That may include:

  • Swapping ships
  • Adding motor-coach transfers
  • Changing ports
  • Using hotels
  • Adjusting excursion times
  • Moving embarkation or disembarkation points

Before departure, watch your email and cruise-line app closely.

Avoid booking tightly timed independent transportation around individual river ports when conditions are changing.

And before canceling anything yourself, confirm what the cruise line and your travel-insurance provider will cover.

Flexibility is free.

Sometimes it is the most valuable thing you can pack.

Key Takeaways

  • A Royal Caribbean guest reportedly experienced a wardrobe malfunction while riding a FlowRider.
  • Secure swimwear and tight drawstrings are a smart idea before using onboard surf simulators.
  • Marella Cruises is reportedly asking guests not to hide cruise ducks.
  • Cabin-door decorations are also reportedly being restricted across the fleet.
  • Cruise lines can establish their own rules for public areas and cabin doors.
  • Low water levels are affecting portions of the Rhine and Danube rivers.
  • River cruise guests may experience ship swaps, buses, hotel stays, port changes, or cancellations.
  • Viking, Uniworld, and other operators have been adapting itineraries where possible.
  • Travelers should closely monitor cruise-line communications before a European river cruise.
  • Sandals Resorts announced new destination-wedding offerings in Jamaica.
  • Three resorts are undergoing a combined $200 million refresh.
  • Sandals South Coast is scheduled to reopen November 18.
  • Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Caribbean Cay are scheduled to reopen December 18.
  • Qualifying 2027 stays may be eligible for an upgraded Sweetheart Wedding Package.
  • Flexibility is especially important when river conditions are changing.

Cruise News Roundup: Shattered Glass on Legend of the Seas, MSC False Alarm, Carnival Festival Progress and 737 MAX Inspections

Prefer listening instead of reading? Enjoy the full episode of The Cruise Therapy Podcast, hosted by G-Free, your Cruise Therapist.

Cruise and travel news is bringing us shattered glass aboard a brand-new Royal Caribbean ship, a frightening overboard alert that thankfully ended well, another construction update on Carnival Festival, a typhoon disrupting Spectrum of the Seas, and new FAA inspections involving Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

In this edition of Your Daily Boarding Call, we’re unpacking the latest headlines without charging an overweight baggage fee—or asking why you packed seven bathing suits when we both know you’re probably going to rotate the same two.

This is a safe space. No judgment here.

Shattered Glass Discovered Inside Legend of the Seas’ AquaDome

Royal Caribbean’s brand-new Legend of the Seas has encountered an unexpected issue inside one of its most recognizable spaces.

Guests discovered a shattered glass panel inside the ship’s massive AquaDome.

And remember, crewmates, this ship is only about a month old.

She should still have that new-cruise-ship smell.

Somebody please check the warranty and make sure no one threw away the receipt.

Aquadome – Aquatheater – Deck 15 Forward. Legend of the Seas – Royal Caribbean International (Photo Credit: Royal Caribbean Group)

What Is the AquaDome?

The AquaDome sits high at the bow of the Icon-class ship and is made up of hundreds of glass panels surrounding spaces that may include:

  • Restaurants
  • Entertainment venues
  • Panoramic viewing areas
  • The AquaTheater
  • Lounges and gathering spaces

The cause of the damaged panel had not been publicly confirmed in the source material.

So we are not blaming:

  • A bird
  • Rough weather
  • Somebody leaning against the glass
  • One of the aunties after three margaritas and a tequila shot

We simply do not know yet.

Most importantly, there were no reported injuries connected with the damaged panel.

Crew members can secure an affected section while the glass is inspected and repaired. One broken panel also does not mean the entire AquaDome is structurally compromised.

Still, Legend of the Seas just got here.

She has barely finished unpacking and maintenance already has a service call.

Overboard Alert Aboard MSC Grandiosa Ends With Good News

Now to a story that began frighteningly but ended with relief.

An overboard alert was triggered aboard MSC Grandiosa while the ship was sailing toward Spain.

When a ship receives an overboard alert, the crew must treat it as a genuine emergency.

That can involve:

  • Changing course
  • Beginning search procedures
  • Reviewing surveillance footage
  • Checking onboard systems
  • Accounting for passengers and crew
  • Coordinating with authorities when necessary
MSC Grandiosa in the Port of Rotterdam (Photo Credit: MSC Cruise)

Thankfully, this incident turned out to be a false alarm.

Everyone was reportedly safe.

And “false alarm” may be two of the best words you can hear in cruise news.

Why Cruise Lines Take Every Alert Seriously

Even when an alert turns out to be incorrect, ship crews cannot assume that from the beginning.

Every possible overboard situation must be investigated quickly because time is critical in a real emergency.

For passengers, the best response is to:

  • Follow crew instructions
  • Stay away from restricted search areas
  • Avoid spreading unverified information
  • Wait for official announcements
  • Do not interfere with emergency procedures

Social media speculation can travel faster than the ship itself.

Official communication matters.

Carnival Festival Construction Continues in Germany

Now that everyone is safe, let’s move into something a little more exciting.

Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany has released another behind-the-scenes look at construction progress aboard Carnival Festival.

The ship is scheduled to enter service in May 2027 and will become Carnival Cruise Line’s fourth Excel-class vessel.

She is expected to join:

  • Mardi Gras
  • Carnival Celebration
  • Carnival Jubilee

Eventually, Carnival Festival is expected to call Port Canaveral home.

Building a Cruise Ship Is No Small Project

Construction has already moved through several major stages, including:

  • Engine installation
  • Bridge construction
  • Crew-cabin production
  • Exterior assembly
  • Structural work
  • Systems installation

Building one of these ships is basically the world’s most expensive LEGO project.

Except if there is a piece left over at the end, engineering is absolutely going to have questions.

Cruise fans who enjoy following shipbuilding projects can expect more construction milestones as the vessel moves closer to sea trials and final delivery.

Typhoon Dolphin Delays Spectrum of the Seas

Mother Nature has once again reminded everyone who actually controls the itinerary.

Royal Caribbean’s Spectrum of the Seas was delayed returning to Shanghai because of Typhoon Dolphin.

The disruption affected the ship’s return schedule and shortened the following cruise.

This is the domino effect of severe weather.

If the current sailing cannot safely return to port on schedule, then:

  • Passengers cannot disembark on time
  • The ship may need additional preparation time
  • New guests may not be able to board as scheduled
  • Ports may need to be removed
  • Shore excursions may change
  • Flights and hotels may be affected

Safety Comes Before the Original Itinerary

Cruise lines adjust operations based on:

  • Weather forecasts
  • Sea conditions
  • Port restrictions
  • Local-government guidance
  • Safety assessments

Nobody wants to lose vacation time.

But ships do not race typhoons because somebody prepaid for a shore excursion.

Safety wins every time.

FAA Orders Inspections of Boeing 737 MAX Aircraft

Now let’s taxi over to airline news.

The Federal Aviation Administration has ordered airlines to begin inspecting Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for potential structural cracks.

Before everybody starts yelling, “Not the MAX again,” there is some important context.

The FAA has ordered precautionary inspections of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for possible structural cracking. (Photo Credit: Boeing)

According to the transcript, the cracks were initially discovered on an older Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft—not on a MAX jet.

However, the MAX uses the same design for a structural reinforcement component near the forward service door.

That component is sometimes referred to as a bear strap.

Because cracking in that area could potentially affect structural integrity, the FAA wants MAX aircraft inspected as a precaution.

What This Means for Travelers

At this point, travelers should not automatically assume their upcoming flight will be canceled simply because it is scheduled on a 737 MAX.

This is preventive maintenance.

And preventive maintenance is exactly what we want aviation regulators to require.

Check the plane.

Check it twice.

Check whatever needs checking underneath the hood—even if airplanes technically do not have a hood in the same way your car does.

I have a cruise to catch.

During Severe Weather, Use Official Sources First

When severe weather affects your cruise, do not rely solely on:

  • Facebook groups
  • TikTok videos
  • Cruise-message boards
  • Something somebody’s cousin heard from a bartender

Go directly to the source.

Check:

  • Your cruise line’s app
  • Your email
  • Text messages
  • The cruise line’s official website
  • Official port notices
  • Your travel advisor

If the sailing is delayed, shortened, or rerouted, immediately review:

  • Flights
  • Hotels
  • Airport transfers
  • Cruise transfers
  • Independent excursions
  • Travel insurance
  • Prepaid activities

Before changing a flight or canceling a hotel, understand what the cruise line and your travel-insurance provider may cover.

Take screenshots of every official notification.

“Somebody posted it in a Facebook group” is not documentation when you are filing a $700 travel-insurance claim.

Key Takeaways

  • A shattered glass panel was reported inside the AquaDome aboard Legend of the Seas.
  • No injuries were reported in connection with the damaged panel.
  • The cause of the shattered glass had not been publicly confirmed in the source material.
  • An overboard alert aboard MSC Grandiosa turned out to be a false alarm.
  • Everyone aboard was reportedly safe.
  • Cruise crews must treat every potential overboard alert as a genuine emergency.
  • Construction continues aboard Carnival Festival at Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.
  • Carnival Festival is scheduled to enter service in May 2027.
  • The ship will become Carnival Cruise Line’s fourth Excel-class vessel.
  • Spectrum of the Seas was delayed by Typhoon Dolphin.
  • The delay also shortened the following cruise.
  • Severe weather can affect embarkation, ports, flights, hotels, and excursions.
  • The FAA has ordered precautionary inspections of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
  • The concern involves a structural reinforcement component near the forward service door.
  • Travelers should not assume a flight will automatically be canceled because it uses a 737 MAX.
  • Official cruise-line notifications should be saved and documented during weather disruptions.

Carnival Cruise Line Appoints Its First Female Staff Captain

Carnival Cruise Line has made maritime history.

On August 5, Daniella Gargiulo was officially appointed Carnival’s first female staff captain during a ceremony aboard Carnival Adventure as the ship returned to Sydney from the South Pacific.

As staff captain, Gargiulo serves as the captain’s second-in-command and helps oversee important areas such as:

  • Maritime operations
  • Navigation and bridge operations
  • Shipboard safety procedures
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Officer and crew leadership

In other words, she is not standing on the bridge asking everybody where they want to go for lunch.

She is helping run the ship.

From Deck Cadet to Staff Captain

Gargiulo began her Carnival career as a deck cadet in 2013 and worked her way through the ranks during approximately 13 years of service.

Her interest in maritime life began much earlier. At age 14, she enrolled in nautical school in Italy.

Her promotion is significant because women remain underrepresented in senior maritime positions. Visible leadership appointments can show future captains, deck officers, engineers, and other maritime professionals that there are more paths available to them.

Congratulations, Staff Captain Gargiulo. 🎉

May your future include calm seas, cooperative passengers, and absolutely nobody asking whether you really know how to park the ship.

MSC Cruises Is Opening a New Beach Destination in the Dominican Republic

MSC Cruises is preparing to give travelers another reason to put the Dominican Republic on their cruise wish list.

Catalina Sugar Beach is scheduled to begin welcoming guests in November 2026.

The destination is located on Catalina Island off the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic near La Romana.

According to the transcript, the enhanced beach experience is being developed through a partnership involving MSC Group and Casa de Campo Resorts & Villas.

What Travelers Can Expect at Catalina Sugar Beach

Plans include:

  • An open-air beach pavilion
  • International cuisine
  • Dominican dishes
  • Tropical drinks
  • Shaded seating areas
  • Cabanas
  • Daybeds
  • Water-sport rentals
  • Showers
  • Restrooms
  • Upgraded changing facilities

Basically, MSC looked at a gorgeous Caribbean beach and asked:

“This is beautiful—but where are the cabanas and frozen beverages?”

MSC Expands Its Dominican Republic Presence

The new beach destination fits into MSC’s broader growth in the region.

MSC is also preparing for year-round Southern Caribbean sailings aboard MSC Opera from La Romana beginning in November.

A polished private-style beach experience could make Dominican Republic itineraries even more attractive for travelers who want a relatively easy beach day with organized amenities.

Just remember: Catalina Sugar Beach is the destination’s name.

It is not permission to eat five desserts before boarding the tender.

Port Canaveral Begins a $95 Million Cruise Terminal Makeover

One of Florida’s busiest cruise ports is getting even bigger.

Port Canaveral officially began construction on a $95 million expansion and renovation of Cruise Terminal 10 on August 6.

The project is expected to be completed in November 2027.

When finished, Terminal 10 is expected to total more than 145,000 square feet, making it approximately 30% larger than the existing facility.

Built for Bigger Ships and More Passengers

The expanded terminal is being designed to accommodate some of the cruise industry’s largest vessels, including ships carrying as many as 6,700 passengers.

Yes.

6,700 passengers.

That is a small town arriving at security with rolling luggage.

Planned improvements include:

  • Expanded security areas
  • Larger baggage-processing spaces
  • New elevators
  • New escalators
  • Updated signage
  • Upgraded climate-control systems
  • More natural light
  • Colorful artwork
  • A new glass façade

The project is part of a much larger improvement program covering facilities and technology throughout Port Canaveral.

In addition to cosmetic enhancements and a new look and feel with updated lighting, artwork and signage, Cruise Terminal 10 will feature larger security screening and luggage laydown areas. (Credit: Canaveral Port Authority)

Why the Expansion Matters

Cruise ships are becoming larger, and ports need enough space to efficiently process thousands of arriving and departing travelers.

For passengers, upgraded terminals can potentially mean:

  • Smoother embarkation
  • Faster baggage handling
  • More efficient security processing
  • Improved accessibility
  • Better climate control
  • More comfortable waiting areas

So the next time everything at Port Canaveral looks shiny and new, remember: somebody spent $95 million so you could still walk inside and ask,

“Which line am I supposed to stand in?”

Norwegian Getaway Will Spend Embarkation Night Docked in Miami

Passengers sailing aboard Norwegian Getaway on August 24 will have an unusual first night onboard.

Guests should still arrive at PortMiami during their originally assigned embarkation times.

However, instead of departing at the originally scheduled 4 p.m. sail-away, the ship is expected to remain docked overnight and depart at approximately 3 a.m. the following morning.

The overnight stay is connected to an environmental initiative intended to help reduce emissions and support cleaner port operations.

Your Boarding Time Is Not Changing

This is the most important part for passengers:

A delayed departure does not necessarily mean delayed boarding.

Guests should still follow their assigned terminal arrival times unless Norwegian specifically tells them otherwise.

And once you board, according to the transcript, you will not be permitted to get off the ship again to explore Miami.

So please do not:

  1. Board the ship.
  2. Unpack your pajamas.
  3. Find your cabin.
  4. Order a cocktail.
  5. Announce that you are heading back to South Beach for dinner.

Your evening plans have changed.

Instead, passengers can begin enjoying the ship while taking in a bonus nighttime view of Miami.

The vacation officially starts when you board—even if the ship is still tied to the pier.

Delayed Departure Does Not Always Mean Delayed Check-In

When a cruise line announces a delayed sail-away, read the entire notice carefully.

Do not assume your embarkation time has changed.

Before leaving home or your hotel, confirm:

  • Your assigned terminal arrival time
  • The final boarding deadline
  • The ship’s revised departure time
  • Whether passengers may leave after boarding
  • Whether restaurants will operate normally
  • Whether entertainment will begin as scheduled
  • Whether any ports have changed
  • Whether shore excursions are affected
  • Whether arrival times at subsequent ports have changed

Take a screenshot of the cruise line’s notice and share it with everyone traveling in your party.

Do not rely on somebody saying:

“I think they told us to come later.”

“I think” has caused more vacation confusion than expired passports and airport breakfast cocktails combined.

Passenger Arrested Following an Alleged Incident Aboard Carnival Glory

We begin with a serious story involving a passenger aboard Carnival Glory.

Authorities arrested a 44-year-old man following an alleged incident involving two children aboard the ship.

According to a probable-cause affidavit referenced in published reports cited by the transcript, the children were playing tag in a hallway when the passenger allegedly stopped and struck them.

One child was reportedly hit in the face and suffered a bloody lip and head pain. A second child was allegedly struck in the stomach and reported pain.

The incident was reportedly captured by the ship’s security cameras.

Authorities said the passenger claimed he could not remember what happened because he had been heavily intoxicated. He was charged with two counts of child abuse and pleaded not guilty.

The allegations have not been proven in court.

Important details remain limited, including the children’s ages and whether they knew the passenger. Because minors are involved, speculation would be inappropriate.

We hope the children are doing well and receiving the care and support they need.

Alcohol Does Not Excuse Dangerous Behavior

Cruise passengers remain responsible for their conduct, regardless of whether alcohol is involved.

Ship security cameras, crew members, and law enforcement do not take a vacation simply because everyone else has a drink package.

Passengers should immediately report threatening or unsafe behavior to:

  • Ship security
  • Guest Services
  • A nearby crew member
  • The onboard medical center, when necessary
  • Local authorities, when directed by the cruise line

Parents and guardians should also remind children to remain aware of their surroundings and seek help from a crew member if they feel unsafe.

Disney Cruise Line Plans to Debut Three Ships in 2029

After that difficult report, let’s move to brighter cruise news.

Disney Cruise Line is preparing to do something it has never done before: introduce three ships in a single year.

According to the transcript, Disney expects three vessels to arrive in 2029:

  • A Japan-based Wish-class ship operated through Disney’s partnership with Oriental Land Company
  • The first ship from Disney’s new smaller class
  • A second ship from that smaller class

All three are currently expected to debut during the same year.

Disney fans everywhere are already calculating how many cruises they can book without the rest of the household noticing.

Disney’s Fastest Single-Year Fleet Expansion

The Japanese vessel is expected to be registered and based in Japan.

Disney has not yet released all deployment details for the two smaller ships. Their reduced size could allow them to visit ports that cannot easily accommodate Disney’s largest vessels.

That could potentially bring Disney cruising to:

  • Smaller European ports
  • Regional destinations with limited berth capacity
  • New embarkation cities
  • More culturally immersive itineraries
  • Travelers who prefer smaller ships

Disney’s larger shipbuilding program is expected to grow the fleet to 13 ships by 2031.

Three ships in one year?

Disney apparently asked, “Why release the magic slowly when we can empty everyone’s vacation account at once?”

Somewhere, a small European harbor just heard “When You Wish Upon a Star” playing in the distance.

Norwegian Cancels Norwegian Sky’s Farewell Voyage

Norwegian Cruise Line has canceled Norwegian Sky’s planned 19-night farewell voyage.

The cruise was scheduled to travel through:

  • Greece
  • Egypt
  • Jordan
  • Saudi Arabia
  • The Suez Canal
  • The Red Sea
  • Muscat, Oman

Norwegian said ongoing regional security uncertainty meant the company no longer felt confident it could deliver the safe and reliable experience guests expected.

The decision is especially disappointing for travelers who booked the voyage as their final opportunity to sail aboard Norwegian Sky before the ship leaves the fleet.

Compensation for Affected Guests

According to the transcript, affected passengers will receive:

  • A full monetary refund
  • A 50% future cruise credit
  • A previously issued 15% credit connected to earlier itinerary changes

Safety must come first, but travelers should review every connected reservation immediately.

That includes:

  • Flights
  • Hotels
  • Airport transportation
  • Cruise-port transfers
  • Independent excursions
  • Visa arrangements
  • Travel insurance
  • Prepaid tours
  • Nonrefundable add-ons

A cruise cancellation does not automatically cancel the rest of the vacation.

Your ship may have left the itinerary, but that nonrefundable hotel room could still be sitting there with the lights on, waiting for you.

Captain Kate McCue Steps Away to Prioritize Family

Captain Kate McCue has announced that she is leaving her position with Four Seasons Yachts to focus on her family.

Captain Kate became the first American woman to command a major cruise ship in 2015 and later became widely recognized through her years with Celebrity Cruises.

In 2025, she joined Four Seasons Yachts as an inaugural captain for Four Seasons I, which entered service earlier this year, according to the transcript.

Choosing a Different Course

Captain Kate said her family needs more of her time and attention.

Her father recently underwent major surgery, and she also lost her mother shortly afterward.

This is not a story about scandal or controversy. It is a deeply personal decision to choose family.

Even the person steering a luxury yacht sometimes needs to change course.

Captain Kate intends to keep her captain’s license active and has indicated that she may still enjoy future sailings as a guest.

A Lasting Maritime Legacy

Captain Kate has:

  • Inspired women around the world
  • Increased visibility for women on ship bridges
  • Encouraged young people to consider maritime careers
  • Made cruise-ship leadership feel more accessible
  • Built a strong connection with passengers and cruise fans

Her influence extends beyond any one cruise line or ship.

We wish Captain Kate and her family calm seas and meaningful time together.

Disney Theme Parks Grow While Universal Reports Softer Profits

Now, let’s move from ships to theme parks.

Disney reported that attendance at its domestic parks increased 3% during its latest quarter.

Walt Disney World reportedly saw particularly strong attendance from domestic visitors and annual passholders.

According to the transcript, Disney’s domestic parks and cruise business generated approximately $7 billion in revenue during the quarter ending in June, representing an 11% increase from the same period the previous year.

Meanwhile, Universal theme parks reportedly experienced a 5% decline in profit.

Universal’s parent company pointed to factors such as:

  • Higher fuel costs
  • More expensive airfare
  • Softer Orlando travel demand
  • Pressure on broader travel spending

Epic Universe was reportedly still performing well, but Universal’s wider theme-park operations felt pressure.

What This Could Mean for Travelers

Strong Disney attendance does not necessarily mean every family is spending freely.

Some travelers may be:

  • Shortening vacations
  • Staying off-property
  • Visiting fewer parks
  • Using annual passes more strategically
  • Bringing more food and supplies
  • Choosing fewer premium experiences

Softer demand at Universal could eventually lead to:

  • Select promotions
  • Hotel discounts
  • Ticket packages
  • Dining offers
  • Better values during slower periods

But do not assume the parks will be empty.

Attendance may be softer, but that does not mean you and Harry Potter will be riding alone.

Disney reported stronger attendance and revenue while Universal experienced softer profits. (AI-Generated Image)

What to Do When a Cruise Is Canceled

When a cruise is canceled, work through your reservations in order of urgency.

Travelers using a travel advisor may receive help coordinating this process. Everyone else should begin immediately.

Step 1: Save the Cruise-Line Notice

Keep copies of:

  • The official cancellation email
  • Refund details
  • Future cruise credit terms
  • Rebooking offers
  • Compensation information
  • Applicable deadlines

Step 2: Review Connected Reservations

Contact:

  • The airline
  • The hotel
  • Transportation providers
  • Independent excursion operators
  • Tour companies
  • Visa-processing services
  • Parking facilities
  • Pet-care providers

Ask whether they offer:

  • Full refunds
  • Partial refunds
  • Credits
  • Date changes
  • Cancellation waivers
  • Exceptions related to the cruise cancellation

Step 3: Contact Travel Insurance Before Canceling

Speak with the insurance provider before canceling anything that may qualify for reimbursement.

Canceling first could affect the documentation or eligibility required for a claim.

Step 4: Track Every Refund Separately

Cruise lines, airlines, hotels, and tour operators may process refunds on different schedules.

Create a simple list containing:

  • Provider name
  • Amount paid
  • Cancellation date
  • Refund amount
  • Expected processing time
  • Confirmation number
  • Current status

Keep every email, receipt, screenshot, and cancellation confirmation until all money and credits have been received.

Alleged Crime-Ring Leader Arrested at the Port of Naples

We begin with a serious developing story from Italy.

Italian authorities reportedly arrested a man accused of leading a criminal drug-trafficking organization as he attempted to board a cruise ship at the Port of Naples.

Public information remains limited, including details about the ship involved and how authorities located the suspect at the cruise terminal. The allegations have not been proven in court, so we will stay with the confirmed information and allow investigators to handle the rest.

The incident demonstrates that a cruise terminal is not an escape hatch from law enforcement.

You cannot pack a swimsuit, grab your passport, and assume an outstanding investigation will remain home and water your plants.

Authorities reportedly intercepted the suspect before he boarded, preventing the cruise ship from becoming part of his travel plans.

Cruise-Terminal Security

Major cruise terminals may use several layers of security, including:

  • Passport and identification checks
  • Passenger-manifest reviews
  • Baggage screening
  • Surveillance systems
  • Coordination with port authorities
  • Cooperation with local and international law enforcement
  • Restricted access to secure terminal areas

As more verified information becomes available, the story may provide a clearer picture of how the arrest unfolded.

Norwegian Reveals a Massive Waterpark at Great Stirrup Cay

Now, let’s move from an alleged getaway to Norwegian Cruise Line creating an entirely different kind of splash.

Norwegian has revealed new details about Great Tides Waterpark at Great Stirrup Cay, its private island in the Bahamas.

According to the transcript, the nearly six-acre attraction is scheduled to open on September 4 and will include:

  • 19 water slides
  • Cliff jumps from approximately 10 to 15 feet
  • A 9,000-square-foot splash zone
  • Swim-up bars
  • A winding river stretching nearly 800 feet
  • Family-friendly play areas
  • Attractions for thrill seekers

Nineteen water slides?

That is not a waterpark. That is a swimsuit stress test.

More Food and Island-Day Options

The expanded destination is also expected to introduce additional dining options, including:

  • Barbecue
  • Seafood
  • Desserts
  • Complimentary buffet selections
  • Drinks available near the water attractions

Norwegian is designing the experience for families, adventure seekers, and guests whose main vacation goal is floating near a cocktail.

The cruise line has also added two ship piers at Great Stirrup Cay, allowing guests to walk directly ashore rather than relying on tender boats.

That means you can leave the ship, eat barbecue, race down a waterslide and recover at the swim-up bar—all before your vacation develops a sensible pace.

American Airlines Changes Its 24-Hour Refund Policy

American Airlines updated the 24-hour refund language in its contract of carriage on July 29.

Travelers purchasing tickets fewer than seven days before departure are no longer automatically eligible to cancel within 24 hours and receive a full refund.

This matters because many passengers assume every airline ticket includes a risk-free 24-hour cancellation window.

According to the transcript, federal protections require that option only when the flight is booked at least seven days before departure.

A 24-Hour Hold May Still Be Available

American Airlines says travelers booking closer to departure may still be able to select a complimentary 24-hour hold during checkout.

In other words, the airline is saying:

“You may think about it overnight—but select that option before your credit card enters a serious relationship with us.”

Before booking a last-minute flight, confirm whether you are:

  • Purchasing the ticket immediately
  • Placing the itinerary on hold
  • Receiving a refundable fare
  • Accepting a nonrefundable ticket
  • Eligible for a cancellation credit
  • Subject to change or cancellation fees

“I changed my mind” sounds much better before the airline responds, “That is unfortunate.”

Southwest Introduces New Benefits for Business Travelers

Southwest Airlines has announced new services aimed at qualifying corporate travelers.

Beginning in early 2027, eligible companies may be able to add a new Business Priority product to their corporate travel agreements.

Qualifying travelers could receive additional assistance when their schedules are disrupted, including:

  • Preferred reaccommodation
  • Standby support
  • Boarding assistance
  • Help after cancellations or delays
  • Easier access through corporate booking systems

In plain English, when the travel day falls apart, certain business passengers may receive extra help putting it back together.

Because nothing says professional development like running through an airport in dress shoes while a laptop bag repeatedly hits you in the hip.

Expanded Corporate Booking Access

Southwest is also expanding its use of New Distribution Capability technology.

This could allow more corporate booking platforms and travel-management companies to access:

  • Southwest fares
  • Seat options
  • Optional services
  • Corporate travel products
  • Booking and itinerary information

The changes may be especially useful for frequent business travelers who need flexibility, faster recovery after disruptions, and easier booking through employer-approved systems.

Southwest says it is making corporate travel easier.

Road warriors everywhere replied, “Wonderful. Now do something about the 6 a.m. meeting.”

Southwest plans to provide additional disruption support and booking access for qualifying business travelers. (AI-Generated Image)

Amtrak Considers Dividing Operations Into Three Groups

Now, let’s roll over to rail news.

Amtrak has announced a preliminary restructuring proposal that would place three separate subsidiaries under one parent company.

Under the proposed structure:

  1. One company would manage passenger service.
  2. A second would oversee tracks, bridges, tunnels and stations.
  3. A third would manage trains and other equipment.

Amtrak is essentially saying:

“You handle the passengers. You fix the tracks. And somebody back there needs to remember where we parked the train.”

Why Amtrak Is Considering the Change

Amtrak says the restructuring could:

  • Improve accountability
  • Speed up decision-making
  • Clarify operational responsibilities
  • Improve infrastructure management
  • Create a more efficient railroad
  • Provide a better customer experience

The board has approved a preliminary framework, but the plan is not final.

According to the transcript:

  • Public comments will be accepted through October 30.
  • Management plans to begin developing more details in September.
  • A formal proposal may be presented in December.
  • The new structure could begin in 2027 if approved.

For passengers, the most important question is whether the changes eventually lead to more reliable trains, improved stations, and better customer service.

Most passengers do not care how many subsidiaries Amtrak has.

They want to know whether the train is on time—and whether the café and bar are open.

Check the Rules Before Booking a Last-Minute Flight

When booking a flight within seven days of departure, never assume you automatically have 24 hours to cancel without a penalty.

Before paying, locate the exact refund language on the checkout page.

Confirm:

  • Whether the fare is refundable
  • Whether a 24-hour cancellation option applies
  • Whether a complimentary hold is available
  • When the hold expires
  • Whether cancellation produces cash or a credit
  • Whether any fees will be deducted
  • Which time zone controls the deadline
  • Whether the airline or a third-party website issued the ticket

When available, consider placing the flight on hold while you confirm:

  • Cruise reservations
  • Hotel accommodations
  • Airport transportation
  • Traveling companions
  • Vacation schedules
  • Passport and identification requirements

Take a screenshot of the fare rules and note the exact expiration time.

Remember that “midnight tomorrow” may be based on the airline’s policy—not the time zone your vacation brain selected.

A five-minute policy check can prevent a nonrefundable airline ticket from becoming the most expensive souvenir you never used.

  • Italian authorities reportedly arrested an alleged crime-ring leader at the Port of Naples.
  • Public details remain limited, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
  • Norwegian is developing Great Tides Waterpark at Great Stirrup Cay.
  • The nearly six-acre attraction is expected to include 19 slides, cliff jumps and a large splash zone.
  • Swim-up bars, an extended winding river and additional food options are also planned.
  • New piers allow more Norwegian passengers to walk directly ashore at Great Stirrup Cay.
  • American Airlines changed its policy for tickets purchased fewer than seven days before departure.
  • Travelers should not assume every ticket includes a refundable 24-hour cancellation period.
  • A complimentary 24-hour hold may be available during checkout.
  • Southwest is introducing new disruption support for qualifying business travelers.
  • The airline is also expanding access through corporate booking platforms.
  • Amtrak is considering separating passenger service, infrastructure and equipment management.
  • The Amtrak proposal is preliminary and will undergo additional development and public comment.
  • Travelers should save screenshots of airline refund, cancellation and hold policies.

Cruise News Roundup: Gangway Mishap, Bahamas Advisory, Disney Believe and Costly Airline Changes

Cruise and travel news is bringing us a gangway mishap at CocoCay, updated safety guidance for the Bahamas, an upcoming Disney ship reveal, a new Tampa cruise terminal, lingering WestJet disruptions, and airline cancellation penalties that could make your wallet request emergency assistance.

In this edition of Your Daily Boarding Call, we are unpacking the biggest headlines without charging an overweight baggage fee—or asking why your carry-on contains four different outfits for every day of the cruise.

This is a safe space. But seriously, how are you getting all of that into one carry-on?

Grab your favorite libation, your passport, and your emotional-support luggage. Let’s get caught up.

This blog post is adapted from the original Cruise Therapy Podcast transcript.

Gangway Falls Into the Sea as Wonder of the Seas Leaves CocoCay

A gangway fell into the water as Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas departed Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas.

Thankfully, no guests were reportedly standing on the gangway when it entered the sea, and no passenger injuries were reported.

That gangway watcher watched the ship pulling away and apparently said, “Wait for me!”

The incident occurred as the ship was leaving the pier. The exact cause had not been publicly confirmed in the source material, so we will not launch our own maritime investigation from the sofa.

What matters most is that passengers were not reported injured.

Why Departure Areas Are Restricted

Cruise-ship arrivals and departures involve moving equipment, heavy lines, gangways and coordinated activity between ship and shore personnel.

Restricted areas help protect passengers while crew members:

  • Remove or reposition gangways
  • Handle mooring lines
  • Secure doors and access points
  • Communicate with pier personnel
  • Prepare the ship to leave
  • Monitor changing water and weather conditions

When the crew says the gangway is closed, that is not a suggestion. Step back and let the professionals handle the giant floating city.

The Bahamas Travel Advisory Has Been Updated

The United States updated its travel advisory for the Bahamas on July 28.

The Bahamas remained at Level 2, meaning travelers should exercise increased caution. The advisory level itself did not rise, but the summary was updated with more specific safety information.

That does not automatically mean you should cancel your cruise, lock the suitcase, hide the family and crawl under the bed.

It means travelers should read the details, understand the risks, and make informed decisions.

What the Updated Guidance Highlights

The advisory discusses concerns that may include:

  • Violent crime in parts of Nassau and Freeport
  • Staying aware of your surroundings
  • Using reputable transportation and excursion providers
  • Following local laws and regulations
  • Exercising care around beaches and nightlife areas
  • Avoiding accidental possession of prohibited items

The summary also warns travelers about jet skis and other recreational watercraft that may be unlicensed, uninsured, poorly maintained or operated without proper attention to weather conditions.

Nothing ruins a beach day faster than discovering the jet-ski operator’s only qualification is owning a whistle and a laminated business card.

What Cruisers Should Do

Before going ashore:

  • Review the current destination advisory.
  • Book through established excursion providers.
  • Confirm whether operators carry appropriate insurance.
  • Follow local beach and boating regulations.
  • Avoid displaying large amounts of cash or valuables.
  • Stay in populated areas when possible.
  • Keep track of the ship’s departure time.
  • Do not carry ammunition or prohibited items, even accidentally.

Read the full guidance and avoid letting one dramatic social-media post plan—or cancel—your entire vacation.

The Bahamas remains at Level 2, with travelers advised to exercise increased caution and choose reputable excursion providers. (AI-Generated Image)

Disney Believe Reveal Is Coming in October

Disney Cruise Line is preparing to reveal more information about its next ship, the Disney Believe.

Somewhere, Disney adults and big kids are clearing their calendars and locating their Mickey ears.

And by “big kid,” I mean me.

According to the transcript, Disney plans to share new details during a livestream on October 7. The Wish-class ship is expected to arrive in late 2027 and draw inspiration from promise, possibility and what lies beyond the horizon.

In other words, Disney said, “Bring the children, bring the grandparents and bring the credit card with the highest available balance.”

What Travelers May Expect

The approximately 140,000-ton ship is expected to feature experiences inspired by:

  • Disney
  • Pixar
  • Marvel
  • Star Wars
  • Family storytelling
  • Immersive entertainment
  • Themed dining
  • Activities for children and adults

Disney is also planning a special one-night presentation aboard the Disney Wish on October 7 during a four-night Bahamas cruise from Port Canaveral.

You already know somebody will be wearing Mickey ears, carrying a lightsaber, singing “Let It Go” and trying to reserve an inaugural sailing before the livestream ends.

Port Tampa Bay Begins Work on a New Cruise Terminal

Port Tampa Bay has started site preparation for its fourth cruise terminal.

It will be the port’s first newly constructed cruise terminal in more than 25 years. The project is expected to open in 2029 and could support more than 200 additional cruise-ship calls each year.

The port also expects the expansion to help increase annual cruise traffic beyond two million passengers.

Tampa looked at Miami and Port Canaveral and said, “Slide over. We are joining the group chat.”

What the Project Includes

Early work involves:

  • Filling more than five acres of land
  • Relocating stormwater infrastructure
  • Preparing the site for terminal construction
  • Developing parking-garage plans
  • Designing passenger-processing areas
  • Supporting future cruise capacity

For travelers, the expansion could eventually mean:

  • More cruise ships
  • Additional itineraries
  • More competition
  • Greater departure flexibility
  • Easier access for travelers in Florida and the Southeast
  • More pre- and post-cruise opportunities in Tampa

It may also create another parking garage where you can forget where you left the car.

Pro tip: Take a picture of your parking level. After seven nights of sun, buffets, drink packages, and entertainment, your memory may still be onboard.

WestJet Strike Ends, but Disruptions May Continue

WestJet and the union representing approximately 4,400 cabin crew members reached a tentative agreement, ending the work stoppage and withdrawing strike and lockout notices.

That is the good news.

The not-quite-as-good news is that delays and cancellations may continue while the airline:

  • Repositions aircraft
  • Restores routes
  • Reassigns flight crews
  • Rebuilds schedules
  • Accommodates disrupted passengers
  • Reconnects travelers with onward transportation

The end of a strike does not mean a previously canceled flight has suddenly risen from the dead.

Verify first. Then go to the airport.

What Affected Travelers Should Check

Passengers should confirm:

  • Current flight status
  • New departure times
  • Connecting flights
  • Hotel reservations
  • Airport transfers
  • Cruise embarkation plans
  • Rebooking options
  • Baggage location
  • Travel-insurance benefits

Cruise passengers should be especially careful when flights are scheduled close to embarkation. A disrupted flight can quickly affect hotels, transportation, and the ability to reach the ship on time.

Delta’s Premium Basic Fares May Carry Large Penalties

Delta has updated rules for its unbundled premium basic fares, with some change and cancellation penalties reaching hundreds of dollars.

According to the transcript:

  • Changing a First Basic ticket may cost $300.
  • Changing a Premium Select Basic ticket may cost $400.
  • Canceling a basic business-class ticket may carry a $500 penalty.

After the penalty is deducted, the remaining ticket value may generally be issued as a Delta eCredit. Travelers may also need to pay any fare difference when changing flights.

These fares may offer a premium seat at a lower initial price, but with reduced flexibility.

Pay Attention to the Word “Basic”

Travelers may focus on words such as:

  • First
  • Premium
  • Business
  • Comfort
  • Preferred

But the most important word may be Basic.

Premium Basic sounds like someone wearing designer shoes with no return policy.

Before purchasing, determine:

  • Whether changes are allowed
  • How much the change fee will be
  • Whether cancellation produces a refund or credit
  • How long the credit remains valid
  • Whether bags are included
  • Whether advance seat selection is included
  • Whether upgrades are allowed
  • Whether same-day changes are permitted
  • Whether fare differences apply

Travel Tip of the Day: Read the Rules Before Booking a Basic Fare

Before purchasing any ticket labeled Basic, Saver, Light or Economy Basic, review the change and cancellation rules before entering your credit-card number.

Check whether:

  • The ticket can be changed
  • The ticket can be canceled
  • You receive a refund or travel credit
  • A cancellation penalty applies
  • Baggage is included
  • Seat selection costs extra
  • Upgrades are permitted
  • Same-day changes are allowed
  • The fare earns miles or status credit
  • A fare difference will be charged

Take a screenshot of the fare conditions at the time of booking. Airline products, benefits, and rules can change, and the screenshot can help document what was displayed when you purchased the ticket.

Compare the basic option with the next flexible fare level. Sometimes paying slightly more upfront provides much greater value and protection.
